Unmanned aircraft to fight insurgency


'The Indian Air Force is making its presence felt in the counter-insurgency operations with the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The UAV are being used for real-time information gathering of the insurgency infected areas in northern and north-east parts of the country.

AOC-in-C Western Air Command Air Marshal Padamjit Singh Ahluwalia today said UAV, forming an important part of the IAF, are now being actively utilised in counter-insurgency operations to help the ground forces. He said, “the UAV are being used for imagery, reconnaissance, and surveillance purposes over the enemy areas.” The frequency of deployment of the UAV varies up to three months at a time, in the insurgency effected areas with three to four hours per day deployment.'
