Recent Purchases Spurred FCS UAV Cuts, General Says


'The U.S. Army's recent purchases of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to support ongoing operations provided part of the rationale for the decision to cut two of the four classes of UAV planned for the Future Combat Systems (FCS) program, according to the Army's deputy chief of staff for programs.

"With respect to Future Combat Systems, I think what we're always doing is we're re-evaluating what do we actually have in our modernization programs and are they still consistent with the direction the Army is going in," Lt. Gen. David Melcher said following an Army breakfast in Arlington, Va., Jan. 10.'
