Italian Parliament Approves Law on UAV Deployment

"The new law, which came into being on the 21st July, states that an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or Aeromobile a Pilotaggio Remoto (APR or Remote Piloted Air vehicle), is an air vehicle piloted by a crew that operates from a remote ground control station (GCS).

Pending regulations that cover the deployment of UAVs in the general air-traffic control system, UAVs will be used inside limited air-traffic areas or corridors with limitations specified by both a relevant technical and operative document to be released by the Italian Air Force, and by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) in concert with the Air Navigation Services Company (ENAV).

In case of operations over the national territory or abroad, connected to crisis situations or armed conflicts, the deployment of UAVS is not subject to the already mentioned limitations."
