'When the defense contracts started rolling in to the tune of eight figures, Aurora Flight Sciences Corp. CEO John Langford knew it was time for expansion.
Aurora, a Virginia manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that had landed those key government contracts back in January, has now won a $23.6 million deal to design a UAV that runs on jet fuel instead of gasoline.
Aurora's R&D office in Cambridge is leading that project. The office opened in January to upgrade the GoldenEye-OAV, which is a ducted-fan, unmanned aircraft that rises vertically before changing to wing-borne flight, Langford said.'
