Air Force selects New York to run Predator squadron

'Governor Pataki says the Air Force plans to enlist the New York Air National Guard to operate one of its unmanned aerial vehicle squadrons.

It's part of an Air Force initiative that could expand the Predator program to as many as 15 squadrons by 2010.

The unmanned aircraft are piloted remotely. They can fly for 24 hours at altitudes of 20,000 feet, provide real-time video to ground troops and attack with two Hellfire missiles.

The technology is used in surveillance and reconnaissance missions, and has met with success in Iraq and Afghanistan.'
