Avoid SEO shops, advisor warns

Very interesting new article on SEOs and small business by Jack Humphrey. A taste:

You are led to believe that your business will die a terrible death without the search engines. You are led to believe that only people who can guide you through the mine field of search engine optimization are the SEO “experts.”

Wow.

... so many people are falling victim to the gleam and glitter of search engine riches being pushed on them by SEO firms and people selling search engine how-to manuals. It is not long before a new business finds itself wrapped up in a game where the only winners are the geeks and deep pockets.

An interesting attempt to get through to those unfortunate folks inclined to buy optimization services from knuckleheads and scammers. Extreme rhetoric, perhaps, but how else might you get through to people who are buying bad services from bad businesses?

Meanwhile, here's one web-based business that is clearly not going to be taken advantage of. From Craigslist:

www.(sitename).com a new general entertainment website is looking for a search engine guru.

1. submitting www.(sitename).com to search engines
2. helping update meta tags and keywords
3. any other work that can help generate more site traffic

Job location is USA
