Samsung S1050 News Release

Samsung Cameras today announced the release of the S1050, a point-and-shoot digital camera with a premium quality 10.1 mega-pixel image sensor. Coupled with a super-sharp 5x optical zoom lens, the S1050 combines the hardware that demanding photographers require of a camera with intuitive ease-of-use.

The S1050 includes Samsung’s Intelligent Face Recognition Technology, which detects the subject’s face, automatically adjusts auto focus and auto exposure to ensure better composition and image quality in portraits, and other shots featuring people. The AF function instantaneously recognises the faces of subjects and accurately focuses on them. The AE function then takes over, setting the appropriate exposure to ensure the highest image quality.

Users will be able to take advantage of the S1050’s speed and resolution in any situation - from taking landscape photos at dusk to shooting fast action sports photography. Razor sharp images can be delivered using Samsung’s ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction) system which helps to reduce camera shake and image blur during longer exposure shots or in lower light conditions.

For maximum versatility, the S1050 can be powered by an optional Samsung rechargeable Ni-MH battery system, as well as available-everywhere AA alkaline batteries, making it the perfect choice for travellers and power users alike.

Samsung S1050 Reviews

PhotoBlorge has a review of the Samsung S1050 and writes, "Most compact cameras take good pictures at low ISO settings and the S1050 shines at that, picture quality at ISO 80, 100 and 200 were almost perfect thanks to the high quality lens. However at higher ISO settings noise became apparent because the 10 megapixel sensor is small in size, a problem common to almost all compact cameras the only exceptions I can think of are the Canon PowerShot series. The camera had trouble focusing in low light situations either at night outside or in low lit rooms. It performed best in bright outdoor light or in well lit rooms; all other situations had mixed results ranging from good to abysmal."

ComputerActive has a review of the Samsung S1050 and writes, "We found images were very noisy when using the higher ISO ratings of 800 or 1600: there will be few occasions when a lower ISO combined with the camera’s flash won’t produce better photos. At a low ISO of 80, 100 or 200, picture quality was fine, although again, we found its performance was influenced by the light. It tended to work best with less noise when the light was brighter, like most compact digital cameras."

Steves Digicams review the Samsung S1050 and writes - 'the Samsung S1050 is a nice 10-megapixel digital package. With great image quality, average performance, and loads of useful features, I feel the S1050 will make a great choice for anyone who is in the market for a well rounded, compact and versatile digicam. With a street price of $299 or less, it offers a good value, just be sure to check other manufactures offerings in this price range or category as well.'
