A compact digital camera that makes shooting, viewing, and creating fun, featuring an extra-large, high-resolution LCD monitor and a touch display for controls
February 16, 2006 PENTAX Corporation is pleased to introduce the new PENTAX Optio T10 compact digital camera. The Optio T10 is distinguished by an extra-large 3.0-inch,high-definition LCD monitor for easy viewing and a touch-display control system that allows you to program the camera by simply touching icons on the panel as well as customize images directly on the panel.
Along with the powerful raw performance of the cameras picture quality and its 3X-optical zoom lens coupled with a slim body profile and a simple, intuitive interface, PENTAX has engineered a camera that puts the fun back into not only taking and viewing but also creating images with its playful touch-display control.
Pentax Optio T10 Major Features
Easy-to-view 3.0-inch oversized LCD monitor
The Optio T10 accommodates our largest digital-camera LCD monitor, which comes in at a full three inches and about 230,000 pixels for exceptional clarity and definition. Checking pictures and making settings is easier than ever thanks to the larger and clearer displays of images and menu text. And since the monitor sports a wide viewing field, the screen remains easy to see and nearly as bright and colorful when viewed at an angle as when viewed straight on. This is helpful when monitoring shots at low or high angles or when showing off photos to a group of people.
Touch display makes operations simple and enjoyable
The Optio T10s touch display allows you to select and confirm functions by directly touching the LCD screen. The simplicity of touching and selecting the icon of the function you want from the displayed menu takes the stress out of setting up the camera.
Excellent image quality
The 6.0 effective megapixel CCD delivers images with exceptional definition. The camera boasts the well-regarded smc PENTAX lens, which renders clear, high-contrast images, while our unique lens coating cuts out ghosting and other artifacts. And the Optio T10s superb image processing technology produces vivid colors and creates smooth tonal expressions at all brightness levels.
My Drawing mode for easy picture design
The Optio T10 comes with a My Drawing mode, which lets you enjoy customizing your shots. Using the included stylus pen, you can create your own original picture by writing directly on the image shown on the monitor or adding a stored illustration with the Stamp function. The camera also has a function for storing your favorite photos as original stamps.
19.5-mm body is the one of the thinnest in its class
We successfully slimmed down the cameras body by utilizing a 3X-optical zoom lens that employs the PENTAX Sliding Lens System*1 together with a high-density mounting technology that creates an incredibly efficient layout with almost no spaces between components. The resulting 19.5-mm-wide body is the thinnest in its class even with the 3.0-inch extra-large LCD monitor.
*1: PENTAXs proprietary lens system that offsets the central lens groups from the optical axis and houses the lens elements in two separate stages in the lens barrel to reduce the overall lens length and thereby minimize the body depth.
12 shooting modes cover a wide range of scenes
The Optio T10 features 12 versatile shooting modes specialized for conditions such as Portrait, Landscape, Flower, or Night Scene. Just choose the mode matching the subject scene and the camera automatically optimizes the exposure, white balance, and other settings. Selecting the mode is easy with the touch display and the Mode Palette, which displays PENTAXs original mode icons on the monitor.
High-quality movie function with long recording times
The Optio T10 smoothly captures movies at 30 fps (frames per second) at sizes up to 640 480 pixels with image quality rivaling camcorders. The camera includes a movie editing function that can save a frame from a recorded movie as a still image.
Exquisite design
We employed a high-grade aluminum alloy for the cameras exterior. The elegant design is finished off with the soft rounded contours of the top cover that accentuate the units thinness and project a friendly image.
Other features
Digital Camera Info has posted a first impression review of the Pentax Optio T10 after looking it over at the PMA show. They write - 'With an intuitive menu structure, manual control options which are accessible to the beginner, playback features that should entertain and a 2.5-inch LCD with a touch screen interface, the Pentax Optio T10 certainly looks to be a strong competitor in the new touch screen market. The camera has a 1/2.5-inch, 6 MP CCD, and includes a vast wealth of still image parameters and a fully functioning movie mode with 30 fps and a 640 x 480 resolution. There are a number of general shooting modes, a manual focus option that has a basic interface and manual controls in general which reflect the simple, clean and understated design of the entire camera.'
Megapixel reviews the Pentax Optio T10 and writes - 'Optically, the T10’s 3X zoom lens offers a focal length range that covers the equivalent of a 37.5 to 112.5 mm on a 35mm camera. The lens is effectively free of distortion throughout its range, and it is only when the macro mode is used, a mode that locks the lens at the widest angle, that some barrel distortion becomes visible. At the telephoto end however, no pincushion is noticeable, and whatever the focal length in use, the T10’s lens shows no trace of any chromatic aberration, from wide angle through to telephoto, even when imaging a subject that contains strong contrasts.'
Lets Go Digital reviews the Pentax Optio T10 and writes - 'The stylish design, the touch-screen and the camera's compact size all prove attractive features for the consumer that values ease and knows how to appreciate detail. The touch-screen display presents possibilities for an entirely individual way of operating the camera, and will offer a new experience to many. The Pentax T10 has an image resolution of 6 Megapixel and is equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens. We were able to work with the Pentax Optio T10 in practice for a considerable amount of time, and have subjected it to extensive testing. Whether or not we found the Pentax Optio T10 camera to our liking can be read in the following Pentax Optio T10 digital camera review.'
