Casio Exilim EX-Z55 Reviews

Steve's Digicams reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 and writes - 'he Exilim EX-Z55 is an awesome digital package. If you're in the market for a digital camera that has great image quality, speedy performance, and can be slipped into almost any size pocket or purse, then this is the digicam for you! Not bad at all for around $449.'

CNET reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 and writes - 'By and large, the Z55 delivers evenly exposed indoor shots when there's adequate lighting. However, the same can't be said for its performance in daylight; the Z55 falls victim to worse than average purple fringing at high-contrast edges and obliterates white highlights in otherwise perfectly exposed shots. To its credit, Casio has done an admirable job of limiting the noise captured by the camera's CCD, so if low-noise performance is a priority for you, the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 may deserve a serious look.'

DCRP reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 and writes - 'Overall, the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 is a good "go-anywhere" point-and-shoot camera that holds up well against the likes of the Canon PowerShot SD300, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7, and the Sony DSC-T1. While I haven't tested it yet, the Pentax Optio S5i shares the lens and many of the internals of the Z55. The camera does its best work outdoors, where it takes very nice photos, save for some blurriness around the edges of the frame. Indoors you'll be frustrated with an LCD that only "gains up" in a few of the scene modes (most of which aren't appropriate for indoor flash shots), poor low light focusing, redeye, and a fairly weak flash. But for a compact camera for vacation photos the Z55 fits the bill.'

PhotographyBLOG reviews the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55 and writes - 'If you're looking for an ultra-compact camera then you should seriously consider the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55. Casio may not be the first name that you associate with digital cameras, but they have definitely produced a very capable camera in the EX-Z55.... With that massive 2.5-inch LCD screen and simple control layout, the Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z55 is perfectly suited to the new photographer that it is aimed at, and indeed for any photographer that wants a small and very responsive point and shoot model. '

Cameras.co.uk reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z55 and writes - 'The Casio EXILIM EX-Z55 could have been a great camera. I really like the design and feel this camera gives me. Shutter delay is almost non existent and the menus are so clear and easy to read when compared to just about every other make of camera. Unfortunately this only serves to make the focusing problems of the camera an even bigger disappointment. At the end of the day if you cannot take sharp, clear photos than all the rest is pointless. What a shame.'

Casio Exilim EX-Z55 Press Release

New EXILIM ZOOM Models Feature 5 Megapixel CCD
and Long Battery Operation

2.5-inch LCD EX-Z55 and 2-inch LCD EX-Z50 models available

CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. today announce the release of the 5-megapixel EX-Z55 and EX-Z50, two new models in the EXILIM® ZOOM range of digital cameras with long battery operation and large LCD viewing screens.

Earlier this year, CASIO introduced the 4-megapixel EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z40, a thin-body digital camera with a large 2.0-inch TFT LCD screen. This model offered high picture quality, high-speed response and energy saving circuitry in a compact unit. Thanks to the incorporation of CASIO’s proprietary compact image processing module, the EXILIM Engine, the model also offered superior portability and exceptional performance, providing 2.5 times longer battery life, and representing a significant improvement over what remains a common drawback with conventional digital cameras. This attention to the needs of consumers in terms of features and usability ensured the EX-Z40’s extraordinary popularity.

The two new models being announced, the EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z55 and EX-Z50, both incorporate the EXILIM Engine, but now feature circuitry enabling even lower power consumption. The EX-Z55 is equipped with a high resolution 5-megapixel CCD, a 3X optical zoom lens and a larger 2.5-inch LCD screen incorporating an optical viewfinder. With its compact and stylish design, the EX-Z55 can take approximately 400 pictures (based on CIPA* standards) on a single charge, while the EX-Z50 can take approximately 390. Both models offer extended battery life, making them ideal for use during long vacations and business travel, in fact any occasion requiring the amazing stamina that these cameras now offer.

Casio_Z55 BackLike all models in the EXILIM series, they offer superior portability and excellent picture quality, along with extremely high-speed operation for quick response in a variety of shooting situations. One example is the Best Shot function that allows the user to select settings automatically by choosing from sample scenes. In addition, several new functions have been incorporated to assure a higher level of performance, such as the “Business Shot” function which provides automatic correction for photos taken at an angle, and records these shots as though they were taken from a straight front position; the “Auto Macro” function which automatically switches between macro mode and AF mode; “Flash Assist” which operates during flash photography to compensate for brightness levels in darker areas not reached by the flash; and “Icon Help” which uses an on-screen display to guide the user during the switching of settings.

- High-resolution images captured by the CCD with 5 million effective pixels.
- 3X optical zoom in a compact body
- Large 2.5-inch digital interface TFT LCD screen (2.0-inch for the EX-Z50)
