The Casio Exilim EX-Z50 is a 5 megapixel digicam with a 3x Optical Zoom and 2inch LCD.
DC Views has a great review of the Casio Z50 and writes:
'With excellent handling, superb portability and image quality that is easily good enough for large prints, we have to conclude that this new 5-megapixel Casio is a welcome addition to today's digital camera market. Ergonomics are good with all controls being well-placed and functional without there being too many of them. The menu system is logically organised and very user-friendly, while the long battery life makes it ideal for long vacations, or business travel. So if you have been looking for a reasonably priced, stylish point-and-shoot camera that delivers the goods, this Casio Z50 might be just the ticket for you.'

Steve's digicams reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z50 and writes - 'the EX-Z50 is pretty much identical to the EX-Z55, with the exception of the smaller LCD and slightly shorter battery life. That said, we feel it will make a great choice for anyone who wants an ultra-compact that has good image quality, speedy performance, and a durable body that will survive their everyday lifestyle. With a street price of around $399, it offers a good overall value, and will be perfect for your holiday gift list.'
CNET reviews the Casio EX-Z50 and writes - 'Five megapixels? Check. Bright, 2-inch LCD screen? Check. Portable, pleasing design? Check. Like its slightly snazzier brother, the Z55, the Casio Exilim EX-Z50 has a sprightly build and a user-friendly interface. The only difference between the two is that the Z55 has a larger screen (2.5 inches) and costs about $50 more. The camera's rear buttons are laid out differently than on the Z55 but still feel properly placed.' Rating: 7.2
Imaging Resource reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z50 and writes - 'With its tiny size, generous range of preset exposure modes, and 5.0-megapixel CCD, the Casio Exilim EX-Z50 Zoom is an excellent option for anyone constantly on the go. The 23 preset shooting modes make it easy for novices to capture good-looking images in just about any situation, while the ability to capture high-resolution images and adjust attributes such as saturation and contrast will likely attract more experienced photographers interested in a fun digital camera for snapshots. Features like the whiteboard and business card modes that straighten “note taking” shots as well as the voice recorder make the EX-Z50 an amazingly useful business tool, truly offering the “Unexpected Extra” that Casio claims for its products. Several kid and vacation modes are also contribute to the Z50's utility, and its fast shutter response (especially in “Pan Focus” mode) make it a natural for sports shooting or just keeping up with a young family. Its somewhat overaggressive noise processing tends to flatten out subtle detail somewhat, particularly at high ISO settings, but the effect isn't all that noticeable in prints, particularly at 5x7 and below. A great “take anywhere” camera, the Casio EX-Z50 Zoom is so tiny and versatile, you can slip it in a pocket and go, with the confidence that you'll get good images just about anywhere.'

Casio Australia Press Release
New EXILIM ZOOM Models Feature 5 Megapixel CCD and Long Battery Operation
2.5-inch LCD EX-Z55 and 2-inch LCD EX-Z50 models available
CASIO COMPUTER CO., LTD. today announce the release of the 5-megapixel EX-Z55 and EX-Z50, two new models in the EXILIM® ZOOM range of digital cameras with long battery operation and large LCD viewing screens.
Earlier this year, CASIO introduced the 4-megapixel EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z40, a thin-body digital camera with a large 2.0-inch TFT LCD screen. This model offered high picture quality, high-speed response and energy saving circuitry in a compact unit. Thanks to the incorporation of CASIO’s proprietary compact image processing module, the EXILIM Engine, the model also offered superior portability and exceptional performance, providing 2.5 times longer battery life, and representing a significant improvement over what remains a common drawback with conventional digital cameras. This attention to the needs of consumers in terms of features and usability ensured the EX-Z40’s extraordinary popularity.
The two new models being announced, the EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z55 and EX-Z50, both incorporate the EXILIM Engine, but now feature circuitry enabling even lower power consumption. The EX-Z55 is equipped with a high resolution 5-megapixel CCD, a 3X optical zoom lens and a larger 2.5-inch LCD screen incorporating an optical viewfinder. With its compact and stylish design, the EX-Z55 can take approximately 400 pictures (based on CIPA* standards) on a single charge, while the EX-Z50 can take approximately 390. Both models offer extended battery life, making them ideal for use during long vacations and business travel, in fact any occasion requiring the amazing stamina that these cameras now offer.
Like all models in the EXILIM series, they offer superior portability and excellent picture quality, along with extremely high-speed operation for quick response in a variety of shooting situations. One example is the Best Shot function that allows the user to select settings automatically by choosing from sample scenes. In addition, several new functions have been incorporated to assure a higher level of performance, such as the “Business Shot” function which provides automatic correction for photos taken at an angle, and records these shots as though they were taken from a straight front position; the “Auto Macro” function which automatically switches between macro mode and AF mode; “Flash Assist” which operates during flash photography to compensate for brightness levels in darker areas not reached by the flash; and “Icon Help” which uses an on-screen display to guide the user during the switching of settings.
