Pixology Launches Embedded Face Detection Software

Pixology plc, the specialist in software and networks for digital photography, today announced the launch of new technology, which will ensure digital camera users get the best possible picture at their first attempt.

The new product, that can be embedded into a digital camera or a camera phone, is known as PIXOLOGY FaceDetect™ and simplifies the experience of using a point and shoot camera by automatically detecting human faces in a picture. This enables the camera to improve its auto-focus and auto-exposure functions, by automatically locating the most important areas in the picture

Growth in consumer expectation for high quality images has resulted in face detection becoming an important feature for camera manufacturers. Pixology's new software solution ensures sharper image capture by detecting moving as well as stationary faces against any background, plain or cluttered.

Key benefits of the product are:

* It ensures that the important parts of a picture, typically faces, are in focus
* It optimises automatic exposure control
* It reduces over and under exposure for image capture
* It sets new industry standards in terms of tolerance to sudden tilting of the head and the minimum size of faces that can be detected

PIXOLOGY FaceDetect™ is to be revealed and demonstrated at PMA 2006, the world's leading photo-imaging industry event, and is now available for evaluation.

Yuval Yashiv, CEO of Pixology said:

"This technology will make it much easier for consumers to take great pictures. Now that the "mega-pixel race" in digital cameras is coming to an end, manufacturers are looking to differentiate themselves by adding technology inside the camera, which improves the quality of the picture. This kind of technology is one of several that will be used in the future to obtain ever higher-quality pictures from digital cameras and camera phones. This technology is not only extremely quick but has a very high rate of accurate detection. We also believe it is unique in that it has been built solely with the intention that it be used in digital cameras and camera phones."
