Nov 30: Nikon Coolpix S510 Review at Pocket-lint

Nikon-Coolpix-S510JpgPocket Lint reviews the Nikon Coolpix S510 and writes - "Overall, the S510 marks a small step up in terms of performance, image quality, resolution and processing but it is also a step down in terms of user control but there’s an ace in the hole that I’ve not mentioned yet. And is its price. At £199.99, it is £50 cheaper than the introductory price of the S500 and makes it a very competitive camera indeed. Brilliant build and pricing, big fat dollops of image quality and great features but with a few demerits in terms of user control, the Nikon Coolpix S510 is nevertheless well worth the money for anyone in the game for a well made high resolution compact digital camera."

Nov 30: Olympus E-510 DSLR Review at Pocket Lint

Olympus-Evolt-E510Pocket-Lint reviews the Olympus E-510 DSLR and writes - "With a stunning feature set and great handling in a (slightly) beefier body than its E-410 predecessor, plus great image quality, the only thing left to want is a great price. Oh! Hang on; it has a great price too – in a variety of tasty-looking kits or body only. Okay, if you own a Canon or Nikon system you’re already locked into that are unlikely to swap due to the cost of switching all those lenses if nothing else, but if you’re trading up from compacts, across from film or simply need a compact yet superbly specified DSLR with anti shake, than the E-510 must be placed near the top of your list."

Nov 30: Olympus SP-560 Review at Imaging Resource

Olympus-Sp-560Imaging Resource reviews the Olympus SP-560 UltraZoom Digital Camera where they write - 'Long zooms used to be 10x or maybe 12x, but 2007 was the year that Olympus introduced the 18x zoom; and before the year goes out, Olympus has rolled out an improved version with more resolution, and speed enhancements galore. In addition to its 8.0 megapixel sensor, the Olympus SP-560 also sports new features like the Effects Preview and Shadow Adjustment Technology. More importantly, shutter lag is greatly reduced, making the Olympus SP-560 nearly irresistible. Though the zoom is a little wonky in movie mode, the long zoom, 27mm wide angle lens, optical image stabilization, and respectable image quality make the Olympus SP-560 an easy Dave's Picks in the Long Zoom category.'

Nov 27: Canon PowerShot A720 IS Review at Imaging Resource

Canon-Powershot-A720IsImaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot A720 IS and writes - "From the optical viewfinder to the manual modes to the variable power flash, whenever I looked for a feature a photographer would appreciate, I found it on the Canon A720 IS. There isn't a gaudy LCD (with no room for a viewfinder) or extravagant zoom range (with big compromises in optical quality) or any of the frills (frames, in-camera presentations) of many less capable digicams. But if you want a mid-size digicam with a fairly long zoom that can take pictures like a real camera, this is it"

Nov 27: Canon PowerShot SD950 IS Digital ELPH Review at Imaging Resource

Canon-Powershot-Sd950-IsImaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot SD950 IS Digital ELPH and writes - "Featuring a 12.1 megapixel CCD, 3.7x optical zoom lens, and well-designed user interface, the PowerShot SD950 IS Digital ELPH has a compact body style that is well suited for travel. Exposure remains under automatic control, and its 11 pre-programmed Scene modes help with more tricky subjects. The Canon SD950 IS is a very responsive camera, with low shutter lag in daylight conditions, and excellent shot-to-shot speeds. It also sports very good battery life, a capable Movie mode, and excellent download speed. Finally, Canon makes a line of accessories including a slave flash, and even an underwater case for it as well, expanding your options beyond what you'd normally expect from a compact digital camera. The bright 2.5-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the SD950 is user-friendly and hassle-free. Printed output is astonishingly good, producing impressive 16x20-inch prints, and even ISO 400 shots are good at 11x14. If you're looking for a good, take-anywhere camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Canon SD950 deserves a close look."

Nov 27: Canon PowerShot G9 Review at Imaging Resource!

Canon-Powershot-G9-2Imaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot G9 where they write - 'Sure, I wish the Canon G9 were just a bit smaller to fit in a shirt pocket without strangling me. But at least the Canon G9's large body contains a lot of good stuff. With above-average performance, a 6x optical zoom, image stabilization, and that gorgeous 3.0-inch LCD, the Canon G9 is the G-series reborn. Though it's still lacking the swivel screen, I found the Canon G9's big LCD useful enough that I didn't miss it much. Though I'm one reviewer who will take the noise at ISO 1,600 and work with it later, I do wish ISO weren't stranded out on that dial, retro-cool as it is.'

Nov 25: Casio Exilim EX-S880 Review at Trusted Reviews

Casio-Exilim-Ex-S880Trusted Reviews has a review of the Casio Exilim EX-S880 and writes, "One of the reasons I heaped praise on the S770 was for its outstanding image quality, and happily the same is true of the S880. I used it in a wide range of situations, including a dimly-lit bar, a cloudy overcast day and even that rarity in these parts, a bright sunny day, and it never failed to produce excellent results. ... With the Exilim EX-S880, Casio once again proves that it is a force to be reckoned with in the digital camera market. Although it is competing with some very impressive products from other manufacturers, there are few that can match its combination of ultra-compact size, excellent build quality, striking design, crisp performance, superior image quality and fantastic value for money. If you're looking for a pocket compact the S880 should be near the top of your list."

Nov 25: Olympus E-510 EVOLT Review at DPReview

Olympus E510DPReview reviews the Olympus E-510 EVOLT and writes, "overall, especially considering the excellent pricing, extensive feature set, effective image stabilization and superb design/construction/handling, the E-510 is an impressive and hugely rewarding camera in use. The results from the kit lens are some of the best we've ever seen, the SSWF dust reduction system is the most effective on the market and the whole package shows that Olympus understands the needs of the photographer as well as - if not better than - any of its major competitors. If it had a better sensor (less noise and better dynamic range) the E-510 would be a strong candidate for category winner; as it is you'll need to decide if the slight compromises the sensor demands are going to affect the type of pictures you take."

Nov 25: Nikon Coolpix S51C Review at ABCNews

Nikon-Coolpix-S51CABCNews has a review of the Nikon Coolpix S51C and writes, "Nikon's newest point-and-shoot digital camera might be the latest marriage of high-tech capabilities — Wi-Fi and point-and-shoot — but it falls short in its core purpose: quickness. ... Although the camera is well-designed, it would be better suited to fast photography if it had a better response to shooting and focusing. It seems as though the camera was designed around the Wi-Fi feature instead of its ability to shoot."

Nov 25: Pentax Optio Z10 Review at PhotographyBLOG

Pentax-Optio-Z10PhotographyBLOG reviews the Pentax Optio Z10 and writes, "The Pentax Optio Z10's image quality is below average. The camera's main drawback is noisy images, with the relatively slow speed of ISO 200 showing some noise and blurring of detail. The noise gets progressively worse as you go from ISO 400 to ISO 800 and finally to the completely unusable 1600 and 3200 settings. The Pentax Optio Z10 handled chromatic aberrations quite well with limited purple fringing effects appearing only in high contrast situations."

Nov 25: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200 Review at DCResource

Sony-Dsc-T200DCResource has a review of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200 and writes, "The DSC-T200's photo quality was pretty good for an ultra-compact camera. The camera captures sharp photos with pleasing colors, with generally accurate exposure. A few times I did notice that the camera really blew out the highlights, though. Purple fringing was well-controlled, as was noise. There isn't much noise since the camera is applying a fair amount of noise reduction, the results of which are visible even at low ISOs. You'll notice that fine details are smudged, and solid colors (like the sky) appear a bit blotchy. The camera also has minor issues with vignetting, corner blurriness, and barrel distortion, which seem to be "standard features" on ultra-compact cameras. It has big issues with redeye, but at least there's a tool in playback mode to get rid of that annoyance."

Nov 23: Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS Review at DigitalCameraInfo

Kodak-Z812-IsDigitalCameraInfo has a review of the Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS and writes, "In terms of image quality, the Z812 IS doesn’t perform as well as top ultra-zooms from other manufacturers, such as the Panasonic Lumix FZ18, Canon Powershot S5 IS, or Sony Cyber-shot H7. The Kodak Z812 IS has one of the slowest processing times we have seen. At high ISO settings, images suffer from extreme noise smoothing, which destroys fine image detail. The camera also has disappointing color and white balance accuracy. On the up side, our tests show the camera has very good resolution, good dynamic range, great versatility in low light, and decent video capture. ... Overall the EasyShare Z812 IS is an affordable ultra-zoom that takes decent images for the price. However, there are models by competing manufacturers that cost about $100 more that offer more zoom and better overall image quality."

Nov 23: Canon PowerShot A720 IS Review at Digital Trends

Canon-Powershot-A720IsDigital Trends has a review of the Canon PowerShot A720 IS and writes, "For around $225 USD, this is a solid-yet-not-great camera. Christmas didn’t come early so you can’t expect a camera for this price to have the response and low-noise capability of a $1,000 D-SLR! If you can spare the extra money, I’d still go the SD870 IS but a hundred bucks is still 30 gallons of gas. The PowerShot A720 IS is a fine performer outdoors but has its faults in low light and it is a little pokey when you use the flash. It’s not a slam dunk winner but neither is it a dog—it’s a compromise. And compromises rarely make everyone jump for joy."

Canon-Powershot-G9Cameras.co.uk has a review of the Canon Powershot G9 and writes, "the Powershot G9 is about the most advanced compact camera on the market. In terms of features it has a roll call similar to what you would expect from an SLR camera. It is ideal for a photography enthusiast or someone who owns an SLR, but is looking for a more portable second camera. ... The Powershot G9 scores well in just about every area. Nov 21: Canon PowerShot A720 IS Review at Trusted Reviews

Canon-Powershot-A720IsTrusted Reviews reviews the Canon PowerShot A720 IS and writes, "The A720 IS is clearly aimed at photographers who expect a bit more from their camera than a simple point-and-shoot snapshot can provide, and this naturally includes superior image quality. 8MP is about the optimum resolution for compact camera image quality at the moment, and the A720 performs better than most. The 6x zoom lens is particularly good, providing a huge amount of fine detail with good edge sharpness and very little barrel distortion at wide angle, although there is a little pincushion distortion at the telephoto end. Dynamic range is very good considering the small 1/2.5-inch sensor, with excellent shadow and highlight detail even in very high contrast shots, and colour reproduction is typically superb. Noise control is also well above average, with very good image quality at 800 ISO, and usable results even at the maximum setting of 1600 ISO. All in all, an excellent performance from a very accomplished camera."

Nov 21: Samsung L83t Review at ThinkGeek

Samsung-L83TThinkGeek reviews the Samsung L83t and writes, "The camera delivers good, detailed, but not sparkling, mind-blowingly wonderful images. It's well made, even if a few niggles get in the way. The camera springs to life quickly and shutter lag is low - but some operational issues prevent it from being the 'decisive moment' camera. Nevertheless, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and you can't help liking the Samsung L83t. Now, if only I could find an MG Midget to photograph..."

Nov 21: Canon Powershot SX100 IS Review at DigitalCameraReview

Canon-Powershot-Sx100IsDigitalCameraReview has a review of the Canon Powershot SX100 IS and writes, "The Canon Powershot SX100 IS offers a blend of automatic and manual shooting options that should appeal to a broad range of users. The novice can shoot in auto with confidence that the camera won’t let her down, and the more experienced user can make use of the manual controls to exert creative license on their shots. This relatively compact camera mounts a 10x optical zoom lens and offers good shutter performance, image color and quality along with optical stabilization. ... Nov 21: Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd Review at CNET

Fujifilm-Finepix-S8000FdCNET reviews the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd and writes, "Image quality could also have been better and ends up about on par with the Olympus. While colors look accurate and the camera's automatic white balance does a fine job of serving up neutral colors in all sorts of lighting conditions, images are not as sharp as we would have liked. We saw very little colored fringing and even then only under the most extreme circumstances. In some cases, the camera tended to underexpose a little when using the Average metering mode, which uses the entire scene to determine exposure."

Nikon-Coolpix-P5100DP Review has posted their review of the Nikon Coolpix P5100 where they give it a rating of 'recommended' and write - 'And so, once again Nikon has produced a compact capable of excellent results in the right conditions, but one that cannot ever be described as an 'all rounder' (just try using it indoors in low light and you'll discover why). It's a superb walk around camera for the landscape photographer (and has unusually 'purist-friendly' output) and it manages to fit an awful lot into a very small body, but it is disappointingly far from the camera it could have been.'

Nov 15: Sigma 4.5mm F2.8 EX DC Circular Fisheye HSM Lens

4.5Mm-2.8-Ex-Dc-Circular-Fisheye-HsmjpgThe first Circular Fisheye Lens exclusively for use with APS-C size digital SLR cameras

4.5mm F2.8 EX DC CIRCULAR FISHEYE HSM

  • The first 180 degree circular fisheye lens designed specifically for APS-C size digital SLR cameras
  • Fast F2.8 maximum aperture making it ideal for low light photography
  • Minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm and a maximum magnification of 1:6
  • SLD glass minimizes color aberration
  • Equipped with HSM with full-time manual focus override
  • Equisolid angle projection method is possible for art and scientific use

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new 4.5mm F2.8 EX DC CIRCULAR FISHEYE HSM lens.

This autofocus circular fisheye lens has an angle of view of 180 degrees in all directions. It is exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras with the APS-C size image sensor. When used in conjunction with digital SLRs with APS-C size image sensors, it produces circular image within the frame.

The F2.8 large aperture value produces a bright image in the viewfinder and allows photographers to take pictures in low light conditions, making it an ideal lens for Astrophotography and Aurora photography. Due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces, this lens can be used for scientific and arts applications such as solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky or vegetation distribution of the forest.

The minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm/5.3inch and maximum magnification of 1:6 make it particularly useful for close-up photography. SLD(Special Low Dispersion)glass provides effective compensation of chromatic aberration. Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting. It is equipped with an inner focusing system that creates high definition and good image quality over the whole frame. The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor)ensures fast and quiet autofocusing and allows full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring.

Nov 15: Sony Alpha A700 Review at Megapixel

Sony-Alpha-A700-1Megapixel reviews the Sony Alpha A700 and writes - 'While the Alpha 100 was Sony's first dSLR camera and the result of its acquisition of Konica Minolta's camera division, the A700 is much more stamped as a Sony camera, and probably indicates the company's intention to anchor itself solidly in the dSLR market segment. Still, although Sony products tend to command a premium, the A700's price point places it in direct competition with very well established dSLR systems and lacks the Live View function adopted by most others, things that could hinder its success.'

Sony-Cybershot-H3Imaging Resource reviews the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H3 and writes - "As a quality digital camera for the everyday shooter, however, the Sony H3 offers a lot. A 10x zoom in a small package is always welcome; and it comes with the image stabilization it needs to get the long shots. Face detection and lots of ISO headroom mean you'll be able to take better photos of friends and family with and without flash in more places. Nov 11: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 Review at Imaging Resource

Sony-Cybershot-Dsc-W200Imaging Resource reviews the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W200 and writes - "The Sony Cyber-shot W200 is definitely worth a closer look if you want a capable digital camera that's also small and pocket-friendly. With a 12.1-megapixel CCD, the Sony W200 captures great detail and resolution, with very good detail definition in most cases. The Sony W200 offers full auto and full manual exposure modes, plus a range of preset scene modes that are actually quite useful. More experienced users will appreciate the range of adjustable image attributes such as white balance, ISO, contrast, sharpness, and color modes, while novices will benefit from the Sony W200's point-and-shoot style auto modes. Despite slight oversaturation in red tones, overall color is quite good. The Sony W200 is responsive under most normal conditions, and its Burst mode is fast enough for normal action shots."

Nov 8: Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH Review at Imaging Resource

Canon-Powershot-Sd870-IsImaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH and writes - "The Canon SD870 continues with the features that made the PowerShot SD800 a great camera: an excellent 28mm wide-angle lens, Face-detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, plenty of scene modes, and a few important tweaks to the overall operation of the camera. Even movie mode benefits from the wide-angle view, making personal up-close family videos quite easy and fun. The SD870's 8-megapixel sensor delivers resolution capable of delivering good quality 11x14-inch prints up to ISO 400, an impressive feat indeed. Canon has increased the size of the LCD but removed the optical viewfinder; optical viewfinders being something of a joke on most digital cameras with extraordinary optics, most users won't miss it. The 3-inch LCD more than makes up for the lack of a viewfinder, and works well in bright sunlight. At 195 grams (6.9 oz), the Canon SD870 IS can fit in almost any pocket, and uses a battery that can take a pretty decent number of photos. It's a lot of camera fit into a small package, and I think it's a great fit for the experienced digital camera user who needs a reliable, take-anywhere shooter that shows off its photos well. And I can't emphasize enough how great it is to have a 28mm wide angle lens in such a small package."

Nov 8: Panasonic DMC-FZ18 Review at Digital Photography Review

Panasonic-Lumix-Dmc-Fz18-1DP Review has reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ18 and gives it a rating of 'recommended'. They conclude - 'If you can live with the compromises that such a camera inevitably comes with (and you mainly shoot in daylight), you will get a lot out of using it, even if it's your first 'serious' camera. On this basis we think it's safe to say that the FZ18 - which is certainly the best of the 'really big' zoom cameras we've tried so far - easily offers enough to earn a Recommended rating, even if overall the IQ doesn't rate our highest honor.'

Nov 5: Pentax Optio S10 Review at TrustedReviews

Pentax-Optio-S10Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Pentax Optio S10 and writes - 'The latest in a successful series of ultra-compact cameras, the Pentax Optio S10 combines excellent build quality, simplicity of design and good all-round performance with a user-friendly ease of use. It compares well with other quality compacts from rival manufacturers, and its very good low-light performance makes it especially useful for social snapshot photography. If you're looking for a camera to record the office Christmas party it should definitely be on your shortlist.'

Nov 5: Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 Review at PhotographyBLOG

Panasonic L10-1PhotographyBLOG reviews the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 where they conclude - 'Trying to decide what award the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L10 should receive has proven to be a difficult task, principally because the overall package that's currently available doesn't make too much sense. Panasonic have gone to great lengths to make the L10 the perfect beginner's DSLR, suitable for all those people who are considering stepping-up from a compact camera.....

Highly-recommended if you can make the significant financial jump from £200 / $350 compact to £900 / $1300 DSLR, with the bonus of that quality lens, but only Recommended for the rest of us less well-off mortals.'

Nov 5: Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Review at Digital Camera Info

Canon-Powershot-Sx100Isigital Camera Info reviews the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS and writes - 'The Canon PowerShot SX100 IS makes a solid impression. As the first in Canon’s new line, the SX100 IS performs well with its optical image stabilization and updated face detection. Even more, Canon earns major innovation points for the Face Select Tool, which utilizes a unique rotary dial that puts a spin (literally) on an old function. While most manufacturers have by now included face detection on their newer cameras, Canon took the face-finding technology a step further by allowing users to select which face to focus and expose. If the sensitive rotary control dial were improved in the next SX camera, it could easily one of the leaders in the niche 10x point-and-shoot category.'

Nov 4: Kodak EasyShare M753 Review at Pocket Lint

Kodak-Easyshare-M753Pokcet Lint reviews the Kodak EasyShare M753 and gives it a rating of 7 out of 10. They write - "So on the face of it, when you put all this together it makes the M753 look rather poor, but when you remember that this camera is a penny short of £90, you’re actually getting what you pay for, that is a budget digital compact with a modest range of good features and some that could do better. Keep the ISO low and be patient while it focuses in low light and anyone on a tight budget that needs a simple snapper will be more than happy."

Nov 3: Pentax K100D Super Review at PhotographyBLOG

Pentax-K100D-SuperPhotogrpahyBLOG reviews the Pentax K100D Super and writes - 'Having the arrogance to call your camera 'Super' places it justifiably in the firing line for a critical kicking. But having used the camera for more than six weeks, that thought has never entered my head until now. That's because the Pentax K100D Super ticks very nearly all of the boxes for those wanting an easy to use DSLR that delivers images you'll want to keep straight out of the camera; and with the minimum of user input and effort to boot. That said, there is enough room to grow built in for those of us who do want to do more than simply point and shoot, and first time DSLR users will have fun experimenting.'

Nov 3: Nikon D3 First Impression Review at Luminous Landscape

Nikon-D3Luminous Landscape writes a first impression review of the Nikon D3 DSLR and writes - "Now the bottom line is – would I buy this camera? Actually, I pulled out my Amex card three times and asked Nikon to sell it to me, and three times they declined. To me it really was that good – but as I stated earlier, I am predisposed to like Nikons. If there is only one thing I would like Nikon to offer is more Megapixels, at least 17 preferably over 20. For my work it just gives more options in cropping to full page verticals."

Nov 3: Camera Test: Canon EOS 40D at PopPhoto and DCRP

Canon-Eos-40DPopular Photography tests the Canon EOS 40D where they write - 'The 40D's new live preview mode is a hot feature, giving you through-the-lens viewing on the 3-inch LCD, with a full data display under the image. Unlike the 1D Mark III, the 40D's AF works in live preview. It's similar to the live preview AF on several Olympus and Panasonic DSLRs, and causes a short screen blackout while the mirror flips down and the camera focuses. Not the ideal AF method, but useful in some situations.'

DCRP also reviews the Canon EOS 40D writing - 'The EOS-40D is capable of producing excellent quality photos, especially with a high quality lens attached (read: not my 17-85 IS lens). The camera produces very smooth-looking (yet still sharp) photos, with pleasing color, and minimal purple fringing (this last one is really more of a lens issue, though). Noise isn't really noticeable until you get near ISO 1600, and even then, it's more than manageable. Even the ISO 3200 is usable, especially if you do some cleanup work in software. The camera does tend to underexpose a bit, most notably when the sun's not out, so keep that in mind. Much to my surprise, the 40D has a slight redeye problem, probably due to its weak redeye reduction lamp.'

Nov 3: Fujifilm FinePix F50fd review Cameralabs introduction

Fujifilm-Finepix-F50FdCameraLabs reviews the Fujifilm FinePix F50fd and writes - 'So if you were hoping the F50fd was the new high ISO performance leader, prepare for a disappointment. It may be no worse than rivals, but it’s certainly no better. Where the F50fd does score though is its no-nonsense approach to common activities like indoor flash photography. Like the F30 / F31fd before it, the new FinePix is a great indoor party camera, focusing and exposing faces perfectly and increasing the ISO (if you allow it) to record greater background detail. Outdoors it also performs well and offers manual control over the aperture and shutter for creative effects.'

PhotogrpahyBLOG reviews the Fujifilm Finepix F50fd and writes - 'The Fujifilm Finepix F50fd is a frustrating beast. On one hand it offers a number of significant improvements when compared with the older F31fd, but on the other it takes a serious backwards step in terms of image quality, which is ultimately what every camera should primarily be judged by. We whole-heartedly gave the F31fd a Highly Recommended award one year back at the start of 2007, commenting "this compact camera still has no rivals in terms of low-light performance". This time around, the F50fd is no longer the low-light leader that the F31fd was.'

Nov 3: Nikon Coolpix P5100 Review at PhotographyBLOG

Nikon-Coolpix-P5100PhotographyBLOG reviews the Nikon Coolpix P5100 and writes - 'If you are aware of its shortcomings at least the camera can however be brought under your control, and there's enough here than can be tweaked manually to allow you to get great shots at least 80% of the time. And, while the Nikon P5100 isn't perfect, that quibble is to an extent at least negated by the fact that it doesn't demand a premium price either. For that price you get a better-constructed, more fully featured camera than most 8 MP rivals. Meaning that, although the Nikon Coolpix P5100 doesn't quite hit the full five stars, it's still well worthy of your consideration.'

Nov 3: Fuji Finepix S5700 Review at Cameras.co.uk

Fujifilm-Finepix-S700Cameras.co.uk reviews the Fuji Finepix S5700 and writes - "The Fuji Finepix S5700 has two big plus points for anyone looking for a digital camera with a longer lens. The first is its low price tag and the second is ease of use. Picture quality is not perfect, but taking the price of the camera into account I cannot be too critical..... The Fuji Finepix S5700 is one of the cheaper super zoom digital cameras. Therefore it is understandable if picture quality wavers in places. It is one of the easier to use super zooms, despite the fact that the camera has manual exposure controls."

Casio-Exilim-Ex-Z77CNET reviews the Casio Exilim EX-Z77 where they write - "At first glance, the Casio Exilim EX-Z77 seems like a very nice camera. It's small, fast, and full of handy options. Unfortunately, sharp-eyed users will be disappointed by its image quality and scant improvements over the Z75. If you already have a Z75, you don't really need to shell out the cash for such a minor upgrade. Nov 3: Canon EOS 40D Review at DPexpert

Canon-Eos-40DDPexpert reviews the CANON EOS 40D DSLR and writes - "This is a fine camera with worthwhile advances on its predecessor. Canon has dominated this segment of the market for DSLRs between $2000 and $3000, but now faces stiff competition. The Sony A700, the Nikon D300 and the Olympus E-3 are coming soon, which means four superb cameras to choose from in the price range. Camera shops have already discounted the 40D to around $2600, so expect some serious price cutting."

Nov 2: Kodak EasyShare V1003 Review at Imaging Resource

Kodak-Easyshare-V1003Imaging Resource reviews the Kodak EasyShare V1003 and writes - 'The Kodak V1003 did manage to capture a few things well. I liked the Macro shots I took, and I liked the ISO 1,600 captures, too, despite the usual noise; with the V1003, it was not nearly as objectionable as it can be. Most folks, however, would do better to keep it under ISO 400, and ISO 800 if all they're reproducing are 4x6-inch prints. Neither of those pluses, though, are likely to be appreciated by the target Kodak V1003 user when they keep missing the moment while the V1003 tries to focus. If you do a lot of shooting on tripods when indoors, and the rest of your shooting outdoors, and you don't mind heavily saturated colors, the Kodak V1003 takes a pretty good image overall, and it's very stylish, smooth, and pocket-friendly. But if you're trying to photograph pets or children, especially indoors, you should really look elsewhere, as the Kodak EasyShare V1003 is just a little too slow, even in the Children Scene mode.'

Nov 1: Canon PowerShot S5 IS Review at Imaging Resource

Canon-Powershot-S5-IsImaging Resource reviews the Canon PowerShot S5 IS and writes - 'The Canon PowerShot's S5 IS extensive feature set combined with its image-stabilized 12x optical zoom lens will please photographers who want a solidly built and capable non-DSLR camera with all the bells and whistles. Aside from the omission of a RAW mode, the Canon S5 IS is one of the more capable megazooms on the market. External controls and easy access to setting changes add to the Canon S5's appeal, as does its excellent movie mode with stereo sound. The Canon S5's automatic and semi-manual functions will be comforting to snapshooters looking to step up and/or develop their photographic skills. Noise and chromatic aberration issues, unfortunately, detract from the camera's otherwise pleasing image quality. Still, the Canon S5 IS serves as both a camcorder and a long zoom, all-purpose event capturing device, and we think it's one of the best on the market.'

Nov 1: Samsung L700 Review at Imaging Resource

samsung-l700.jpg Imaging Resource reviews the Samsung L700 and writes - "The Samsung L700 is a reasonably attractive, nicely built and affordable digital camera aimed at the entry level end of the market. Despite some quirks, the design is reasonably user-friendly, and image quality is fair at lower ISO sensitivities. Crank the sensitivity up a bit though, and the resulting images get rather soft and noisy. Add in an autofocus system that fails to achieve focus lock too often in low light, and you won't want to be shooting in those conditions too much. The lens design shows promise in terms of sharpness and has relatively minimal distortion, but needs smaller steps across the zoom range and does suffer from lens flare as well as chromatic aberration unusually far into the center of the image. If you're mostly planning on taking outdoors snapshots in good weather though, then the Samsung L700 could fit the bill as an affordable, pocket-friendly camera for day trips."

Nov 1: Ricoh GR Digital II

Ricoh-Gr-Digital-Ii-1The Ricoh GR Digital II is a 10.01 megapixel digital camera with a 28mm fixed focal length lens (28mm equivalent).

It features the new GR Engine II image processor, electronic leveling and the ability to shoot square images (no cropping later).

The Ricoh GR Digital II shoot RAW, has an upgraded continuous shooting mode from it's predecessor and has improved battery performance (up to 370 shots per charge).

You can expect to pay £399.99 when it hits stores in December.

Ricoh GR Digital II News Release
Digital camera inheriting the GR DIGITAL concept with even higher image quality and performance.

Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president: Shiro Kondo) is proud to announce the development and release of the GR DIGITAL II. This compact digital camera succeeds the high-resolution GR DIGITAL released in October 2005.

The multi-award winning GR DIGITAL was launched as the successor to the GR Series of 35 mm compact film cameras (first released in 1996) that were popular for their superb image quality. The GR's outstanding performance met the high standards demanded by professional photographers. It's compact 25mm thin magnesium alloy body has been highly accepted by a wide range of users including high-end amateur and professional photographers in the two years since its release.

The new GR DIGITAL II retains the original concept of the GR DIGITAL of being a high-resolution compact camera that achieves excellent resolving power from edge to edge, low noise, and low colour aberration. In addition, it has, expressive power, operability, and expandability for even higher image quality.

The GRD II will be available at RRP £399.99 Inc at the beginning of December.
Main features of GR DIGITAL II
The GR Digital II achieves even higher resolution with new GR Engine II.

* The GR DIGITAL II is equipped with the newly developed GR ENGINE II image processing engine to keep the excellent resolution, tone characteristics, and colour saturation of the GR DIGITAL, while achieving dramatic reduction in noise.
* A new 1/1.75-inch CCD with 10.01 million effective pixels is employed to achieve improved resolution with an increased number of pixels.
* High image quality that meets the needs of professionals is achieved by coupling with the F2.4 aperture, f5.9 mm focal length (equivalent to 28 mm on a 35mm camera) GR LENS popular for its high resolution feel and low distortion.

Highly expressive photos can be taken thanks to an acceleration sensor that measures camera tilt along the perpendicular axis and the newly developed image processing engine, GR ENGINE II.

* Equipped with an electronic level.
o With the addition of an acceleration sensor, the GR DIGITAL II is equipped with an electronic level function that allows users to know if the camera is level while looking at the LCD monitor. This feature is especially effective when taking pictures of buildings or scenery.
o With the level indicator display on the LCD monitor, composing photos with horizontal or vertical lines visible is now possible without looking away from the camera when shooting.
o There is also a warning sound sensor that can be set to let you know if the camera is level during shooting.
* Square format photography enabled.
o A 1:1 aspect ratio (vertical/horizontal ratio) image size that allows for easy photography of square format images is included.
o Square format is achieved where one can enjoy photography different from standard rectangular images. That aspect ratio has been well received with classic 6x6 medium-format and Ricoh Caplio GX100 cameras.
o RAW mode also is compatible with 1:1 aspect ratio (vertical/horizontal ratio).
* A variety of monochromatic expressions possible with black-and-white (TE*) settings.
o Colour, colour depth, contrast, and sharpness of an image can each be adjusted in +/- five steps.
o Colour can be selected as desired from sepia, red, green, blue, and purple.
*TE=Toning effect

Enhanced operability within a camera designed to accompany a design to accompany photographers wherever they go.

* The function button allows for one-push mode switching. Settings can be registered to switch between “JPEG and RAW,” “Snap and AF,” “colour and black & white,” and others for quick switching of modes when sudden photo opportunities present themselves.
* Functions registered to the Fn button can be saved to the My Settings Mode.
* By displaying the depth of field in the focus bar, the distance range of the depth of field can be confirmed in advance.
* The 2.7-inch, 230,000-pixel display with a high 160º viewing angle is easy to view from both low and high angles.
* Writing time for RAW mode has been reduced and shooting during RAW image writing has been achieved.
* Image writing time in RAW mode has been reduced to as short as approx. 3.8 sec. In addition, the next shot can be taken whilst the first is still being written thanks to the boosted buffer memory. (RAW writing time for GR DIGITAL was approx. 11 sec., and continuous shooting was not possible.)
* A manual pop-up flash operated by a sliding switch is employed to prevent accidental flash operation. The camera is equipped with a flash exposure compensation function that can compensate light intensity from +2.0 EV to -2.0 EV.
* An information display mode shows specific information of your choice on the screen even when the LCD monitor is turned off thereby increasing its ease of use when using the external viewfinder.
* The mode dial is equipped with two My Setting modes. Simply aligning the mode dial to a My Setting allows the user to switch to a preregistered shooting setting of choice.
* The GR DIGITAL II has been equipped with an ADJ. lever to assign functions with a push after setting values are chosen from the operation menu in ADJ. mode.
* Automatic horizontal or vertical rotation of images according to the camera position has been achieved and can be viewed during playback on the LCD monitor.
* Approx. 370 shots can be taken with one charge of the included rechargeable battery (DB-60). (The GR DIGITAL could take approx. 250 shots.)
* A thin, compact size was achieved, measuring 107.0 × 59.0 × 25.0 (W x H x D) and weighing 168 g, while ease of use was improved.

Expandability is increased with a wide range of optional accessories.

* GR DIGITAL optional accessories can continue to be used with the GR DIGITAL II. And the new GT-1, GV-2, and GC-2 can also be used with the original GR DIGITAL.
* A tele conversion lens (GT-1) equivalent to 40 mm on a 35 mm camera has been added to the lineup for shooting with a standard frame. ※Upcoming product
* An external viewfinder (GV-2) equivalent to 28 mm on a 35 mm camera has been added. It is even compatible with 1:1 aspect ratio image size photography. (The currently available external viewfinder (GV-1) is equivalent to 28 mm and 21 mm on a 35 mm camera.)
