Russia attacks Georgia while opening ceremony is on

I really don’t know the background to this, but I heard people talking about this while the opening ceremony was on. I did notice that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin looked a bit agitated in the stand. “All day today, they’ve been bombing Georgia from numerous warplanes and specifically targeting (the) civilian population, and [...]

So what did you think of the opening ceremony?

I am watching the parade of countries now. The opening ceremony was pretty spectacular. I was kind of busy watching our website, following Twitter and reading comments coming into the site to really appreciate it. I will have to watch it all again at a later stage. Probably not too surprisingly we have [...]

30 minutes to go for opening ceremony

It’s just 30 minutes to go before the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics starts. China has waited 7 years just for this moment, putting up with the hassles and restrictions - I hope they think it was worth it. I started this blog 3 years ago, so it is amazing now to think I [...]

American pastor stages a bizarre protest

I have been trying to avoid writing about the different protests going on in Beijing. There haven’t been a lot as security is so tight, but the ones did take place got headlines from media around the world. This one however, is slightly more bizarre. An American pastor checked into the Novotel Peace Hotel [...]

Hazy sky for opening ceremony of 2008 Olympics

There has been no improvement in the sky today for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It is a little disappointing, but I am sure it won’t affect the opening ceremony too much. It could be worse. “The weather conditions today aren’t conducive to the dispersal of pollutants,” said Guo Hu, [...]

Opening ceremony times

I previously wrote what the Olympic opening ceremony program will look like, but didn’t mention times. Here are some more specifics on the actual times for the program. 8:08 PM Beijing (London 1:05 PM, New York 8:05 AM, Sydney 10:05 PM) 90 minute show featuring 14,000 performers and present China’s long history of 5,000 years. Interview with U.S. flag bearer Lopez Lomong

AP did an interview with Lopez Lomong just after he was selected carry the flag for the United States. Even though he wasn’t born in the country I think his story is inspirational and can bring hope to anyone suffering in the world. It is what the Olympics is all about. “It’s more than [...]

Hi
My daughter is doing an assignment on the Athens Olypic Games. The question is

How many countries did not participate in these olympics?

Is it possible to name them.

I personally enjoyed the Olympics. Well done!
