Xerox Tackles Wireless Image Capture
'A team of Xerox scientists sees the camera phone as the next portable document scanner device and has developed technology to make it happen.
At a European research center, Xerox scientists built the software to enhance image capture, but says the camera phone has the potential to enable users to acquire, store, read, print and share documents as needed.
The software was developed some time ago, but senior scientist Christopher Dance says Xerox had to wait for mobile phone technology to catch up before the company could market the software. With the introduction of the mega-pixel wireless camera phone, Dance says the technology has caught up.'
