Sony Ericsson W850 Reviews
3G reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "The W850i is also graced with a rear two-megapixel camera lens that shoots photos in a maximum 1600x1200-pixel resolution. However, a few omissions mean it doesn’t rank alongside the likes of the W810i and K750i. Admittedly, like the W810i there’s no lens cover but unlike its 2.75G compadre it lacks auto-focus and resolution has been down-sized slightly from 1632x1224 pixels. Merit points are clawed back with a built-in LED light that works okay in low-level environments but otherwise you’re looking at the V630i for picture quality comparison. While the snaps are of decent quality, alongside the likes of the aforementioned fellow Ericssons, they can appear a little washed out."
Lordpercy reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "Speaking of cameras, 2 megapixels are almost standard on phones these days, and the W850i is no exception. Clearly determined to separate the CyberShot and Walkman brands, Sony have steered clear of a 3.2 megapixel camera on their latest offering. This is no particular disadvantage though because Sony still have the superior experience in camera phones thanks to the fact that Sony were designing cameras long before they bought out Ericsson and started designing phones. Only Nokia have managed to come close to the camera quality offered by a Sony Ericsson phone through their partnership with Carl Zeiss, however can’t offer any of the usability that Sony can. So top marks again."
CNET reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "Though it has a 2-megapixel camera, the W810i takes pictures in just three sizes: 1,632x1,224, 640x480, and 160x120. As with the company's other 2-megapixel shooters, we were hoping for more choices. That said, other options are plentiful. There are Normal, Panoramic, Frames, and Burst shoot modes; a 4X digital zoom (not usable at the highest resolution); night mode; a flash; a time-and-date stamp; a self-timer; Black and White, Negative, and Sepia picture effects; white-balance settings; Normal and Fine picture-quality modes; and four shutter sounds, though no silent option. ... Photo quality is very sharp and ranks as some of the best we've seen on a camera phone. Colors are bright and object outlines distinct. Videos, on the other hand, are satisfactory but somewhat choppy and pixelated."
PCAuthority reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "The 2 megapixel camera takes decent photos in most lighting conditions thanks to the LED flash, although there is no cover for the lens, so debris will slowly build up around its edges. Two small buttons at the top of the phone will display your photo album in either thumbnail or preview modes. ... The battery cover is a little flimsy and the build quality feels a bit cheap plastic-ey, but the menu system is the same excellent tabbed Sony Ericsson trademark that we have seen in almost all of their recent phones. If the Walkman features and the design appeal to you, you’ll get along well with it."
MobileBurn has a review of the Sony Ericsson W850 and concludes, "To sum up, the W850 is a pretty good all-round device. It manages to live up to the Walkman brand it bares. The full browser, long list of PIM functions, and great menu system all contribute to a pretty typical Sony Ericsson experience, which is pleasant. Extra gadgets such as TrackID, PictureDJ, VideoDJ, and MusicDJ are fun to play with. The camera is not bad either, as long as you don't record videos too often. Apart from the average battery life, another area of concern would be the controversial design. The accessibility of the d-pad and the placement of softkeys are sacrificed for the sake of making a slider-style handset."
Pocket-lint reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "Inside and it's business as usual with the main focus being on the phone's music capabilities rather than the array of multimedia features like a 2 megapixel digital camera that it offers. ... Perhaps we were asking too much, but a clunky bulky design and confusing interface makes this nothing to get excited about. As for the size, we can't believe it's so big."
ComputerActive reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes about the phone's camera: "As for photography, the 2-megapixel camera is great, with flash to boot and delivers very good results both for pictures and video. Plus, there’s Bluetooth on board so you can make calls while the phone’s in your pocket. It comes in white or black-coloured versions, too. Were it not for those little operational difficulties, then this would be the most advanced combination of music and camera phone so far from Sony Ericsson. Not perfect, but not far off."
Trusted Reviews reviews the Sony Ericsson W850i and writes, "If you are wondering about the camera at this point a button on the right side of the phone launches it and also shoots photos while the volume rocker on the same side doubles for zooming. ... The camera took reasonable, though far from exceptional, images. My standard reference photo - the coloured dish, shot indoors under ordinary household overhead lighting looks rather washed out. Photos taken outdoors were generally more vibrant, and all round colour capture was good."
