Sanyo 6600 (Katana) Reviews

PCMag reviews the Sprint PCS Vision Phone Katana by Sanyo, and has this to say about the phone's camera: 'The flashless VGA camera is nothing to crow about. It takes bluish, overexposed images, but anyone serious about camera-phone photography should be getting a 1- or 2-megapixel camera phone anyway. The phone's 3.1MB of available memory holds about 33 pictures at maximum quality, and though you can use the external screen as a viewfinder for self-portraits, there's no video recording mode. The only way to get the pictures off the phone is to e-mail them to yourself."

Mobiledia has a review of the Sanyo Katana and has this to say about the phone's camera: "While the filters and functions are impressive, in the mobile industry, the Katana's VGA camera is outdated. With many high-end devices breaking the 3.0-megapixel barrier, camera phones are beginning to look less like communication devices and more like digital cameras of yesteryear. Lacking the ability to store high resolution photos or recording video clips, the Katana's images are too low in resolution to make accurate prints, instead best used for cell phone wallpapers or multimedia attachments."

Infosync reviews the Sanyo Katana and writes about the phone's camera: "The Katana's snapshots looked fair for a VGA phone-based camera; our images looked a bit fuzzy and colors were relatively washed out, but that's more or less what we expected with the handset's limited 600 x 400-pixel resolution. You can't zap your photos to another phone or a PC via Bluetooth, but sending snapshots via MMS was easy enough, and we appreciated the Katana's full-screen zoom mode and slideshow capabilities. Expect to squeeze about 50 VGA photos in the phone's memory."

MobileBurn reviews the Sanyo Katana and writes, "The Katana's VGA camera has many nice features to it that I credit to Sanyo's many years of experience in the Japanese market, where cameraphones have been in vogue for a very long time. The Katana has a number of features that are rarely seen on a phone. ... The problem is that the camera takes very poor photos. Colors are washed out, scenes have very low contrast, and the focus is somewhat poor. It is a real shame that all of the rest of the good parts of the system didn't get mated to a higher quality camera module."

MobileTechReview reviews the Sanyo Katana and writes, "The Katana has an integrated VGA camera that’s takes decent photos by VGA camera standards. With more and more camera phones weighing in at 1.3 megapixels, VGA feel outdated. But it’s certainly better than nothing when you want to snap a fleeting moment. ... While photo quality isn’t as good as that of the Treo 650’s VGA camera (one of the best among phones we’ve tested), it’s better than many low-end VGA camera phones and images have reasonable color saturation and light balance. You will notice full sun shots look washed out, (a problem which plagues all VGA cameras), and a warm color bias in indoor shots with incandescent light (also not uncommon). Noise levels are quite low by VGA camera standards."
