Samsung SGH-G800 Reviews
LetsGoMobile reviews the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "Pictures can be made with the use of the five Megapixel auto focus digital camera. The camera offers an auto focus assist lamp, a xenon flash, face detection and image stabilization. We can say without exaggerating, that the Samsung G800's camera is currently the most advanced camera inside a mobile phone. The possibility to zoom in three times optically enhances the photographic possibilities. This way distant objects can be captured without any quality loss. This is a true advantage compared to the competitors with digital zoom."
3G reviews the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "The Samsung G800 may not be unique in offering Xenon flash, but it does make a tremendous difference to photos shot in less than bright conditions. A Xenon flash provides a very bright light for a short period of time. As with any flash, you'll have to be careful with glare and reflection from shiny surfaces and it can be a bit of a drain on the battery, but it's great for a mobile camera."
Pocket-lint reviews the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "The Samsung G800 is the company's latest camera focus mobile phone and comes with a 5 megapixel digital camera with the promise that photographers can still get great shots even without a standard compact camera...there are the flash modes; auto, on, red-eye reduction or off, timer options, macro modes, white balance, exposure settings, anti-shake, ISO settings up to 400 and special effects to boot. The options list like a real camera."
CNET reviews the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "Like many camera phones of its caliber, the SGH-G800 is designed to look like a camera but offer cameralike ergonomics. A sliding cover protects the camera lens and xenon flash. Opening the cover starts the camera automatically, and closing it turns off the camera. There's no self-portrait mirror, but it's not needed. The SGH-G800 has a second VGA camera just above its display. This second lens is so inconspicuous that we didn't even know it was there until we saw an option for it while scrolling through the camera menus. When you're taking a photo with either lens, and you're holding the phone horizontally, you'll find that the left spine volume rocker and camera shutter are now on the top of the device. It feels just like a real camera. You can use the volume rocker to control the zoom."
Trusted Reviews has a review of the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "Personally, I'd still prefer to use a dedicated digital camera, but the G800 undoubtedly delivers to a better standard than many mobile phones I've reviewed. And with features like an anti-shake mode, face detection, a proper xenon flash and autofocus to help you out, taking photos you are happy to keep and to even to print is certainly within the G800's capabilities."
IT Reviews has a review of the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "The 5-megapixel camera in the G800 from Samsung might have made headlines a year ago, but now it has plenty of rivals, such as the LG Viewty, Sony Ericsson K850, Nokia's N95 and N82 and Samsung's very own G600...The Xenon flash, macro mode, face detection and autofocus only enhance its appeal to the photographically inclined, and while we found the camera was not perfect it certainly gives its 5-megapixel rivals a good run for their money. We'd still recommend a separate digital camera for the highest quality photos, though."
CNET Australia reviews the Samsung SGH-G800 and writes, "In fairness, the G800 takes decent photos compared to standard camera phones, but its price tag and generous proportions promise so much more. Broadly speaking, we saw desaturated colours, consistently soft focus, and the "hot" areas of our images flaring. On the plus side, the optical zoom worked a treat, maintaining good detail across all lengths of the 3x zoom, and is leagues better than any digital zoom we've seen in the past. Overall, the G800 takes great (though enormous) pics to send to your friends across MMS, but we don't imagine you'll be framing these photos to display over the fireplace."
