Samsung SGH-G600Samsung SGH-G600 News Release

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone and telecommunication equipment provider, has announced a sleek new camera phone, the Samsung G600. Housed in a fashionable black two-toned slider shell and equipped with a 5 mega-pixel camera, the Samsung G600 is a fusion of design, photography and the ultimate in phone functionality.

A design icon and high performance camera in one, the Samsung G600 is the latest member of Samsung's range of handsets and is made to capture quality pictures of priceless moments. At work or at play, consumers can now get creative with various modes such as panoramic or mosaic settings and enjoy the quality of built-in Power LED flash, image stabiliser and image enhancer. No matter where it's being used, for phone or camera, the Samsung G600 guarantees to make users look and feel great.

Yangkyu Kim, Vice President of Sales Team for Europe and CIS market said “The Samsung G600 is more than a style icon, it comes with a built-in 5 megapixel camera that will help people capture and store their favourite moments. Since the market demand of 5 megapixel camera phone is expected to grow significantly in this year and next few years, we are aiming to capture these market needs starting with G600."

For a better viewing experience, the Samsung G600 incorporates a 2.2" LCD with 16 million colours, a 5 mega-pixel multi-function imaging system and full Bluetooth v.2 connectivity. This will enable people to view larger pictures and graphics and helps users read text or Web pages in full. What's more, these features are bundled into a tiny 102 mm by 47.8 mm by 14.9 mm frame.

The Samsung G600 is also equipped with a host of multimedia features designed for those on the go. Music lovers will enjoy the embedded MP3 player, which can be customised to individual tastes and preferences. With improved internet browsing, users will benefit from NetFront Browser v.3.4, which provides PC-like browser capabilities on your mobile.

Samsung has proven camera phone leadership with the launch of series of industry's first camera phones including the 5 megapixel camera phone (SCH-S250) in 2004, 7 megapixel camera phone (SCH-V770) in 2005, and finally 10 megapixel camera phone (SCH-B600) in 2006 for Korean domestic market.

The Samsung G600 will be available in the major European market from August 2007.

Samsung SGH-G600 Reviews

Pocket-lint reviews the Samsung SGH-G600 and writes, "As a phone, the G600 is a solid number that doesn't push the boundaries, but then, is likely to appeal to many. If you were tempted by the U600 but not sure about those magic touch sensitive keys then this is definitely for you. As for the camera? The offering here is as almost as good as the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot range and certainly as good as the Nokia N95. The only catch? No 3G, which is strange seeing as there is some focus on surfing the web with this model."

3G reviews the Samsung G600 and writes, "The 5 megapixel camera comes with x4 digital zoom, auto focus, flash LED ( not xenon which performs much better ), white balace and makro mode for close-up detail work. The camera itself is hidden when the slider is closed and ready to use when the slider is open...This is a high end specification camera phone. There is only one camera on the handset so video calling is not possible but video recording still is. The resulting camera shots are well above average but would not challenge a specialist camera phone like the Nokia N93i with its Carl Zeiss lens. But the camera is well above average and is likely to be the main selling point for this handset."

PC Advisor reviews the Samsung G600 and writes, "Although the camera doesn't have a Xenon flash, like Sony Ericcson's K800i and makes do with a 4x digital (rather than optical) zoom, it does feature plenty of shooting modes, including macro mode, plus flash, white balance and ISO settings up to ISO 800. Photos taken at a maximum 2,560x1,920 resolution were still of a very pleasing quality – once the Samsung G600 had finally taken them (it is a little slow, bless it)."

TrustedReviews reviews the Samsung SGH-G600 and writes, "One of the key selling points of this phone is its 5-megapixel camera. The last time I saw one of these in a mobile was Nokia's N95, and the only other was reviewed at the tail end of last year - LG's KG920, so 5-megapixel phone number three has been a long time coming...The SGH-G600 is a very good slider mobile that's pleasant to use, with some great touches. The 5-megapixel camera is very good, though not quite good enough for the more discerning to want to leave their point-and-shoot digicam at home."

Register Hardware reviews the Samsung SGH-G600 and writes, "There's no Cyber-shot phone-cum-camera style tip-offs either. When shut, the G600 looks like a regular sliderphone with a reassuringly solid feel about it. The camera is only revealed when the slider is slipped open, with the 5Mp autofocus lens and LED flash rising from the rear casing...Hiding it away is no doubt good for keeping the G600's lens free from wear and tear. It does mean though you have to slip open the phone any time you want to take a snap. A camera button on the side activates the shooter rapidly, and controls appear on the screen in landscape mode. With the keypad open, though, it's not quite as easy-snapping as some turn-and-shoot digital camera-style phones. Still, the G600 does have a stunning display as a viewfinder, with 2.2in of 320 x 240 resolution presenting up to 16m colours."

LetsGoMobile reviews the Samsung G600 and writes, "To make use the 5 Megapixel autofocus digital camera you need to open the slider phone. The camera can be activated by means of the camera button on the side of the G600 or through the menu. After activating the camera, it takes a little while before the camera is actually ready. On the back side you will find the small built-in flash right next to the lens. Despite its size, it is a relatively powerful flash. The quality of the camera is truly starting to become similar to a normal digital compact camera."

PMA07 reviews the Samsung G600 and writes, "Just like we have seen many times before, Samsung pays a lot of attention to the design of the mobile phone, which is also the case with the Samsung G600. A combination of tight outlines and round forms make sure the camera looks good, but not overly prominent. Even a business man will fall for the design of the Samsung G600. The handset comes in dark grey with three silver colored buttons on the front side. Directly beneath the screen we see a raised edge to slide the mobile open, this edge could have been made a bit higher, because now your finger will slip past it at times."

IT Reviews reviews the Samsung G600 and writes, "Don't be fooled into thinking that the 5-megapixel built-in camera is a substitute for a dedicated digital camera. It isn't. The specialised lens of a digital camera plus the many more settings on offer make it a far better bet if you want to take photos to print or to keep as computer-based memories in the long term...That noted, there are some nice digital photography extras on this phone, not least of which are the ability to crop images and apply filters and effects, including some rather nice ‘warping' algorithms that ought to make picture messaging a bit more fun."
