Samsung SCH-u620 Reviews

PCMag reviews the Samsung SCH-U620 and writes, "The U620's 1.3-megapixel camera, equipped with the usual anemic flash, is pretty good as these things go. My sample shots were relatively bright and clear, and they didn't have severe blurring problems in low light. The phone's movie mode, on the other hand, is unusually good, able to capture videos at 320-by-240 resolution at 14 frames per second. You can save photos, videos, and music into the 22MB of available phone memory or onto a MicroSD card popped into a convenient slot on the side. (A 2GB SanDisk card worked fine for me.)"

Digital Trends has a review of the Samsung SCH-u620 and writes, "As with most Samsung camera phones, the camera shutter on the u620 seems to operate on its own inner clock. There's a seemingly interminable chasm of a couple of seconds between the time you push the button and the time the picture actually gets snapped. Indoors, this is a good thing, because the camera will have stopped moving post-button pushing when the image is actually captured, resulting in less blur. But you're just as likely to move the phone — thinking either there was something wrong with the device or the picture already got snapped and you missed it — before the image does get captured, resulting in a poorly-framed, blurry image requiring an "Erase" and re-shoot. After you have waited patiently for the shutter to click, the resulting pictures from this phone compare unfavorably not only to the LG, but to most 1.3 MP camera phones. Images are bleached with no contrast and inaccurate colors, both indoors and out."

CNET reviews the Samsung SCH-U620 and writes, "The 1.3-megapixel camera takes photos in five resolutions--from 1,280x960 down to standard VGA. Other camera features include a flash, a self-timer, color effects, white balance, a multishot mode, three quality settings, ISO, spot metering, and a choice of shutter sounds. The camcorder shoots clips with sound in two resolutions (320x240 and 176x144) and offers a choice of editing options similar to the still camera. Clips meant for multimedia messages are capped at 15 seconds; otherwise you should be able to shoot up to an hour of video. The SCH-U620 comes with a respectable 69MB of internal memory, but you're better off investing in a healthy microSD card. Photo and video quality was decent, although we found the colors to be a bit washed out."

LaptopMag has a review of the Samsung SCH-u620 and writes, "this lackluster comparison also extends to the camera images, which appeared bleached and lacked the accurate colors rendered by the LG. You'll also have to stand much further back from your subject to squeeze it all into the frame. Although there's a ten-step digital zoom, the image barely seems to grow. ... If you're set on using a Samsung phone, you won't be unhappy with the SCH-u620, but if you can spend $50 more, the LG VX9400 will make you much happier."

MobileBurn reviews the Samsung SCH-U620 and writes, "The SCH-U620's design may be a bit dated, being based upon a device that was launched 2 years ago, but it still is quite functional. It just lacks a bit of the fashion flair seen with many newer designs, including LG's competing VX9400. None the less, with the exception of the screen glare, there is little to complain about. The TV service that Verizon and Qualcomm, the developer of MediaFLO, are offering is quite good. You can watch real TV channels with stereo sound and all of the program information that you would get from any digital cable TV service in your living room. The display is a bit small, perhaps, but this helps keep the phone very pocketable. So is mobile TV going to be the "next big thing" in mobile phones? I highly doubt it. But with that said, I think it would be a great thing for somebody that spends a lot of time on public transportation or sitting around with a lot of time to kill while away from home. The SCH-U620 is a solid phone, and I give it a "Recommended" rating."

MobileTechReview has a review of the Samsung SCH-u620 and writes, "Like the LG VX9400 mobile TV phone it competes with, the Samsung u620 also features a built-in1.3 Megapixel camera with flash and self-portrait mirror. But the picture quality is inferior to the LG’s. Photos usually have very noticeable brown cast, but that occasionally flips to an extremely cool color cast. The photos lack color saturation in both indoor and outdoor shots. Photos taken in direct sunlight look like they were taken at dusk. Lighter objects are whited out in both indoor and outdoor shots. Noise levels for a 1.3 megapixel camera are acceptable. The Samsung u620’s camera can take still images at 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, 640 x 480 and 320 x 240 and photo caller ID resolutions."
