Palm Treo 700wx Reviews
MobileTechReview reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes about the 700wx's camera: "There's no nice way to say it; the camera generally takes dark and colorless photos. It's no worse than the Treo 700w but any Nokia, high end LG phone on Verizon and even some of the Samsungs take much better photos. The Treo 700wx isn't alone however, most PDA phones and smartphones offered by US carriers have poor cameras. The 1.3 megapixel camera can take photos at a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 as well as lower resolutions suitable for MMS and photo caller ID."
PCMag reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "The 1.3-megapixel camera seems slightly improved from the Treo 700w. Colors were deeper, without the slight haze I saw obscuring 700w photos. I found that low-light shots had too much contrast, and though exposure is good, color haloing was a big problem in outdoor shots. Though the Treo's video camera and 352- by 288-pixel capture mode promises great things, video is low-quality, at 8 frames per second with distracting artifacts."
LaptopMag reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "The 700wx’s 240 x 240-resolution is a limitation of the Windows Mobile OS. You wouldn’t necessarily think that it was deficient until you tried the 700p, which renders Web page graphics and photos in greater detail. Regardless, browsing the Web on both models is light-years ahead of most other phones because of Sprint’s high-speed EV-DO network. We didn’t notice any performance issues during our tests, which could be due to the additional RAM. The 700wx generally felt snappy and almost equivalent to the 700p’s speed of operation."
Infosync reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "Multimedia is surprisingly weak on the 700wx. Sprint's mobile TV service (which you can access through the Palm OS-based 700p) is not available on the Windows model. Windows Media player, though it looks like the desktop version, is sluggish and unresponsive at times. Web browsing was difficult, with many pages left jumbled and illegible, though the speedy EV-DO connection was hardly to blame. Even the garbled columns of the full New York Times homepage loaded in seconds. Though the mobile Internet Explorer gives you several page-view options (including single-column, desktop mode and full-screen), it was difficult to find one that would reveal every aspect of a page."
TreoCentral reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "Phone reception wasn't an issue, which is to say I don't notice it being particularly stronger or weaker than other phones. Phone calls on the 700wx were, to my ears, identical to those on the 700w. Both are better than the Treo 650, especially in terms of call volume. Of course, the 700wx has the neat photo-speed dial buttons and the VCR-like controls for your voicemail. You can assign speed-dials to buttons on the keyboard and type-to-find your contacts as well. Finally, because it uses EVDO, if you are called while using data the ring will come through. You cannot do both voice and EVDO data simultaneously, however."
MyTreo.net reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "The 1.3mp camera of the 700wx is the same as the 700w. Perhaps because of screen resolution, images seem grainier than they do when taken on a Treo 700p’s 1.3 megapixel camera. Same thing with videos. ... The most significant difference between the 700w and the 700wx is in the availability of application accessible memory. While the 700w and 700wx both have 128mb of memory, the difference is in how the devices allocate their memory. The Treo 700w only allocated 32mb for programs. The lack of program dedicated memory has resulted in sluggish performance for many 700w users. During my evaluation of the Treo 700wx I never experienced sluggish performance."
Gadgetnutz reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "The 700p ships with a 1.3 megapixel camera – a huge improvement over the old VGA camera. Pictures were sharp and clear. From the camera screen you can easily navigate to your library, or activate the Video recorder. There is a 1x and 2x zoom feature on the camera but no flash is included. The zoom can be operated via the D-pad. When you press the right soft key you have lots of options available; mode, brightness, resolution, zoom and then even additional options. ... The included video recorder was somewhat of a disappointment – as are most vide recorders on cell phones. The resolution is supposed to be 352-by-288 videos at 13 FPS – but is sure didn’t look that way in real life. You can also choose 176 – by -144 for lower quality and smaller videos."
PalmInfoCenter reviews the Palm Treo 700wx and writes, "The 700wx includes a 1.3 megapixel digital camera on the top back side of the device. It can take photos at a max resolution of 1280 x 1024 and has a 2x digital zoom. It can also record video clips with audio at a 352 x 288 resolution. A camera-less version is also available from Sprint. The camera quality is pretty standard for a phone-cam. Outdoor scenes and good natural lighting conditions will give you the best results. Indoor shots also require a lot of light and can get a little blurry and grainy at times. Low-light and nighttime shots are generally very poor and dark. You can manually adjust the brightness settings by pushing right or left on the d-pad, and the program will let you save to pics internally or to an SD card."
