Nokia N81 Reviews

Intomobile reviews the Nokia N81and writes, "I would never purchase a device like this and I would never recommend it to any of my friends. You’re capped at 8 GB since there is no removable microSD slot, the camera is horrible and the phone itself feels miserable in your hand."

Infosync does a hands-on review of the Nokia N81 and writes, "the Nokia N81 didn't take our breath away at first sight. Still, we think the phone is a compelling choice due to its good mixture of multimedia features on one hand, and its calling and messaging functionality on the other hand."

Gigaom reviews the Nokia N81 and writes, "Being a music phone, all the music-playback functionality is built into the top half, so you don’t have slide out the keypad to control the phone. It is a quad band GSM phone that comes with a 2-megapixel camera, which can also be controlled without sliding out the keypad."

CNET UK reviews the Nokia N81 and writes, "We would have liked to see a slightly better camera too. Other phones in the N series have 3 and 5-megapixel cameras, but the N81 is saddled with a pretty pedestrian 2-megapixel snapper. Also, although the battery life is generally decent -- you'll get around four hours of talk time from it -- if you really hammer the Wi-Fi connection and make heavy use of the music and video player, it quickly runs out of juice."

Pocket-lint reviews the Nokia N81 and writes, "On the imaging side, Nokia has disappointingly settled for a 2 megapixel camera rather than 3 megapixels as found in the 5610 XpressMusic or 5 megapixels as found in the N95, although has included a Xenon flash to boost performance."

3G reviews the Nokia N81 and writes, "Although the two-megapixel camera on the N81 8GB isn't Nokia's strongest, the phone has some neat imaging and video flourishes. When you access a saved photo or video from the Gallery, you're automatically presented with a menu of options that appears down the right-hand side of the screen. These menu options allow you to send your photos and videos via multimedia, Bluetooth or the web, share them online, add them to a print basket, print them, present them as a slide show, or just delete them."

Wirelessinfo reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "The Nokia N81 scored 511 lw/ph horizontal and 534 lw/ph vertical, which is a pretty poor score. In fact it's amongst the worst scores we've seen from any phone. Nokia is renowned for making high end camera phones including the Nokia N95 that, as you can see below, put up an excellent score in this test. On the other hand it's not that surprising as we've seen poor performance from Nokia's fixed focus 2-Megapixel cameras."

PocketGamer reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "A close relative of the N95, the N81 literally bulges with features, including 802.11 b and g wireless connectivity, USB 2.0, and a whopping 8GB of onboard flash storage. We could start a list, but there's little point. It's simpler just to say the N81 has everything. In terms of technology, only the measly two-megapixel camera is a disappointment."

IT Reviews has a review of the Nokia N8 8GB and writes, "It all sounds very swish, but there are some issues. If you want a good camera on your mobile then the N81 8GB isn't the phone to provide it. The 2-megapixel unit lacks autofocus or macro modes, and shoots only average quality images."

CNET reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "You can capture video and images of your own with the N81's 2-megapixel camera. It comes equipped with a flash and up to 20x digital zoom and can capture video at up to 15 frames per second. For still shots, you have your choice of three image qualities, six scene selections, and eight sequence modes. You can also adjust the white balance, color tone, exposure, and ISO settings. In video mode, user options are reduced but you do get three video qualities, two scene modes, and white balance and color tones. Once you're done, you can share them via e-mail or multimedia message; view them as a slide show; print them via Nokia's Xpress Solutions; or upload them to the Web or Nokia's Lifeblog app. Picture quality was mediocre. Objects looked clear, but there was grayish tone to the colors. On the other hand, video quality was pretty impressive for a camera phone."

Wired reviews the Nokia N81 and writes, "Sleek design and excellent build quality. Unlocked. Autofocus-free 2-megapizzle camera is paparazzi-fast....Paparazzi-fast camera seems like it’s trying especially hard not to focus."

Brighthand reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "On the rear of the device is a 2 megapixel camera. I expected a camera that was along the lines of the highly regarded one on the N95, despite the lower megapixels, no auto focus, and no Carl Zeiss lens. What I got was a camera that took noisy pictures. Whether in a well lit area or not, the camera never performed well, even when the LED light was used. For such a device that feels so great in the hand, to take a bad picture is just a big knock."

Dialaphone reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "The camera is the least impressive part of the tech inside the N81 as it's only a 2MP item, albeit with autofocus, however if it's a camera phone you're after, then as mentioned earlier, Nokia cater for this rather well with the N73 or N95. No, this is all about the N-Gage gaming and music functions. Playing the pre-installed demo games can be done either in portrait or landscape view, a rare feature in on a smartphone, and is something of a breakthrough – the football game comes alive in landscape for example – and full games can be purchased and downloaded from Nokia's dedicated gaming site...Available in either grey or blue colours and as an 8GB version or 12MB version with a MicroSD slot and supplied 2GB card, the N81 is a very versatile model, let down only by its overall size and weight and the ordinary camera."

LetsGoMobile reviews the Nokia N81 8GB and writes, "We can say that we are dealing with a true multimedia device when we talk about the Nokia N81 8GB. Some things however still need improvement. The weight is too high; the N81 8GB is even heavier than its big brother, the N95. The camera inside the N81 is unfortunately only a 2 Megapixel digital camera. HSDPA is lacking which makes mobile internet kind of slow. You can hardly tell one numeric key from the other, which makes writing a text message very difficult with the N81 8GB. And that is why the type of consumer the Nokia N81 8GB aims at might not choose this device so easily. Read the full Nokia mobile phone review and take a look at the Las Vegas sample photos."
