Nokia CEO says will launch 10 new 3G handsets in 2005
'Nokia Corp chief executive Jorma Ollila said the company expects 25 pct of its planned 40 handset launches in 2005 to be 3G WCDMA handsets.
Speaking at Morgan Stanley's TMT Conference in Barcelona, Spain, Ollila estimated that over 90 pct of all phones next year will have displays showing 64,000 colours or more.
He also said he expects up to two-thirds of Nokia's 2005 phones to have cameras and that the majority of the cameras will have over 1 megapixel resolution.
In addition, about half of Nokia's handset launches in 2005 will be able to play MP3 files, he said.
Nokia said at its capital market day earlier this month it expects more than half of 2005's new handsets to be clamshells, slides and other non-monoblock models.
Ollila today pointed to an earlier study by Strategy Analytics which showed 40 pct of handset sales in 2004 would be clamshells, with 45 pct of handset sales expected to be clamshells in 2005.'
