Nokia 8800 "Sirocco Edition"

Nokia 8800 Engadget reports on the elegant Nokia 8800 "Sirocco Edition", which has been reported will come with an upgrade from the SVGA camera to a 2.0 megapixels, but so far it appears the specs for the Sirocco Edition will stay much the same as the original 8800.

The device does sport a more streamlined exterior and a redesigned keyboard.

Nokia 8800 Sirocco Reviews

ElectricNews.net reviews the Nokia 8800 Sirocco and writes, "This handset has all the usual Nokia features, and in terms of quality the 8800 is only concerned with functioning as a telephone. (And being beautiful.) For example, the headset only has one earplug so you won't be able to cocoon yourself with sound if you want to use the phone as a music player. The camera is only adequate, and the video function -- while passable -- suffers from mediocre picture quality."

SiliconRepublic reviews the Nokia 8800 Sirocco and writes, "Technologically it is up to date as opposed to breaking fantastic new ground. It comes with a two-megapixel camera and has 128MB of internal memory and does all the good Nokia stuff like Java applications, data transfer and internet connectivity. A nice touch is the addition of a matching Bluetooth headset (thankfully not coated in steel, otherwise we’d all have whiplash). ... It’s slick, it’s beautiful, but it's damn expensive and for that money you would have to be dead intent on making an impression to buy one. I could imagine Paris Hilton wielding it as a weapon in the next celebrity cat fight."

MobileBurn reviews the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition and writes about the phone's camera: "As previously mentioned, one of the updates for the Sirocco Edition is the camera. It is now a 2MP CMOS sensor, up from the original 8800's SVGA resolution. Picture quality is acceptable, though the biggest problem is the white balance. Even when given a choice of five preset white balance settings, it is almost impossible to find the correct setting indoors. Video wise, the 8800 Sirocco Edition can record at resolutions up to 176x144 pixels, but quality is only average. The user interface on the 8800 Sirocco Edition is the old Nokia Series 40 v2. As always, it is easy to use, though it is relatively slow in loading compared to newer Series 40 and S60 devices. In the gallery view, you still get to choose to browse your pictures in either a list or 3x3 thumbnail format. Sometimes it can take more than 4 seconds to open the picture gallery, though."
