Motorola U9 Reviews
Pocket Gamer reviews the Motorola U9 and writes, "The joy of finding the U9 adept at mobile gaming was dulled slightly by the entry-level technology found elsewhere on the handset, though. The two-megapixel camera is acceptable but unexceptional, with no auto-focus or flash, while the 25MB of internal storage is unlikely to hold many music tracks. MicroSD support is included but we found it irksome that the slot is located under the battery, meaning that the phone has to be completely powered down in order to swap storage media."
Register Hardware reviews the Motorola U9 and writes, "The camera, built into the top of the flip cover, is a 2-mega pixel shooter that doesn’t impress. Although it’s an improvement on the original PEBL’s very basic VGA snap’n’send camera, cameraphones have moved on, and 2 million pixels is now standard issue. There’s no flash, autofocus or dedicated controls, and few settings adjustments to speak of (though you can do a few editing tweaks post-shooting)."
Pocket-lint reviews the Motorola U9 and writes, "The phone also comes with a now almost defacto for the industry 2 megapixel camera with video mode but with virtually zero memory on-board as mentioned above you'll have to invest in a memory card from day one."
3G reviews the Motorola U9 and writes, "The real stand-out feature is the OLED display which sits beneath the glossy surface of the phone’s fascia and offers touch-screen controls for the U9’s music player while the clamshell is shut. Elsewhere, the features are fairly standard, with an ordinary two-megapixel camera and EDGE data speeds for internet browsing...We’ve no complaints here, although, if you’ve ever used HSDPA or 3G, you’ll find internet browsing with EDGE sluggish. The camera is basic, but the music player is fun to use and the sound quality is good."
Trusted Reviews has a review of the Motorola U9 and writes, "The camera can be best described as average, and that may be doing it a kindness. Certainly my test shots, as usual taken with the camera on auto settings, did not perform wonderfully...The coloured dish, photographed indoors under normal household lighting conditions is rather dark and grainy. The chair, which has become my standard outdoor shot, shows variation in its white tones and definition is not what it could be. The white flowers fare better, with an acceptable level of detail as far as camera phones go and less over-exposure than I had anticipated. All the test images, however, appear to suffer from a spurious colour shift at the centre of each exposure. Odd."
CNET UK reviews the Motorola U9 and writes, "Rounding out the U9's basic feature set is a 2-megapixel camera. It'll take photos and record video, but nothing beyond that. You'll find that neither a flash nor a LED photo light is included, so there'll be no shots in the dark for this phone...As mentioned, our pens aren't poised to write home about the picture quality from the 2-megapixel camera, especially without flash or a LED photo light. If you want to take photos for small prints or MMS messages, go towards the light."
IT Reviews has a review of the Motorola U9 and writes, "Despite its flashy front screen, this is a mid-range mobile phone in terms of its general specifications. There is just 256MB of built-in memory, though an SD card slot lies under the battery cover if you want to add more storage. The camera shoots at resolutions up to 2 megapixels. The lens is mounted on the front of the phone and you can use the front screen as a viewfinder for taking photos that include yourself, which is handy. However, during testing we found the quality of images to be average at best."
