LG VX8700 Reviews
LaptopMag has a review of the LG VX8700 and writes, "Mobile shutterbugs will appreciate the 2-MP camera. It captured highly detailed shots on our tests, good enough to zoom in 4X on your notebook's screen. (See the Photo Gallery for a few test shots.) Without autofocus capability, however, we noticed a slight shutter delay and some blurring with moving subjects. The camera doesn't have a flash, but you can increase the exposure on the fly by pressing up on the D-pad. It also has a Night Mode setting, which worked well at short range. The built-in Image Editor lets you rotate, crop, and save images right on the phone. You can use that skinny external display for taking self-portraits, but its small size means you'll have to make sure everything you want is in the frame before you shoot. ... The lower-priced LG VX8600 is still our favorite bang-for-your-buck V CAST phone, but the VX8700 is worth $50 more for those looking for a combination of high style and substance. The 2-MP camera also helps justify the premium. Although some may balk at the lack of media controls and the internal memory card slot, we recommend this sleek silver clamshell for those who have the means."
PCMag reviews the LG VX8700 and writes, "The easy-to-use 2MP camera takes nice, clear, well-balanced, if somewhat underexposed, outdoor shots. Low-light shots, alas, suffered from blur caused by low shutter speeds. The phone also records somewhat wobbly 320-by-240 video at 12 frames per second. It will save shots into the 44MB of internal memory or onto a microSD card (up to 2GB) that's located under the battery. Don't worry about taking the card out, though—the VX8700 has fully operational Bluetooth to send photos to your PC or Mac. ... The LG VX8700 has all the ingredients of a successful consumer phone: good-enough performance, great looks, and a camera that you'd actually want to take pictures with. But at $229.99 ($179.99 with rebate), it's one of Verizon's most expensive phones right now. I prefer to think of it as paying $50 more to get a better camera than the VX8600's, which is reasonable."
Infosync reviews the LG VX8700 and writes, "Pictures from the 2-megapixel camera on the VX8700 were fuzzy and dull. Colors were generally accurate, but pictures had an overall haziness to them that made them undesirable for printing, though the phone can connect directly to a compatible printer. Photo management tools were basic, including some cropping and color effect options - nothing too fancy. Overall, pictures looked okay as phone wallpapers, and perhaps could make for passable shots on a MySpace page, but in our books, the VX8700 joins the ranks of phones with a camera tacked on as an afterthought. Don't let megapixel counts fool you, if the phone doesn't have a quality lens, the pictures will be disappointing."
MobileTechReview has a review of the LG VX8700 and writes, "Though not autofocus, the camera delivers pleasing shots that generally show good focus with less noise than most 2MP and under camera phones. The only thing we didn't like was the persistent brown cast that plagues indoor and outdoor shots. Photoshop's "auto color" had little luck improving things and we had to tweak the colors on our own to reduce reds and yellows while enhancing blues. ... LG marries fashion and function with the VX8700. The phone is stunning, slim and easily pocketed and it has a good camera, great call quality, good Bluetooth performance including A2DP and good overall response times. In terms of both features and looks, it's serious competition for the Motorola RAZR maxx. We like most everything about this phone lots: a better than average camera, nice video recording quality, strong gaming performance, a very good display (though not quite up to the superb LG VX9400's) and a strong Bluetooth implementation. Our only two dings are the inconvenient microSD card location and the flat keypad/d-pad."
CNET has a review of the LG VX8700 and writes, "One of the most outstanding features on the VX8700 is its 2-megapixel camera. You can choose from up to four different resolutions (1,600x1,200, 1,280x960, 640x480, 320x240 pixels), adjust the white balance and the brightness, set a self-timer, choose from three shutter sounds or a silent option, and select one of five color effects. Other camera settings include a night mode plus the option of saving to the internal memory or to a microSD card. Photo quality was simply stunning for a camera phone, with rich colors and vivid detail. The phone comes with a built-in image editor, which you can use to rotate, crop, or zoom in on photos."
MobileBurn reviews the LG VX8700 and writes, "The LG VX8700 comes with a built-in 2 megapixel fixed focus camera. The device's camera took good image quality photos, but struggled a bit with bright situations. Overall, this was one of the best fixed focus cameras to come across our desks in quite some time. The camera can be set to save photos either to the phone itself or to a microSD memory card. From the photo viewer, you can send a photo as an picture message, set it as wallpaper, assign it as a picture ID for a contact, send it to Verizon's PIX place, or print or send it via Bluetooth. The camera's interface is pretty intuitive for even the technically challenged."
