i-mate JAQ3 Reviews
MobileTechReview reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes, "The i-mate JAQ3's 2 megapixel camera strongly prefers outdoor and well-lit settings to dusky interiors or anything less than bright locales. It has digital zoom but no self-portrait mirror or flash (LED flashes are generally useless anyhow). The camera has 4x digital zoom up to 640 x 480 resolution, 2x zoom at 1280 x 960 and no zoom at the maximum 1600 x 1200 resolution. It offers three quality settings, a variety of effects, brightness, saturation and contrast settings. The camera can take video at 176 x 144 resolution in MP4 and 3GP formats and supports up to 4x digital zoom. It can record audio with video if you wish and you can set the recording length to 15 seconds, 30 seconds or unlimited. As with still shots, the video camera doesn't do well in low light, exhibiting excessive noise and a heavy orange-brown color cast. Outdoors suit it better, though the MMS sized videos are really too small for anything beyond cell phone sized displays. The recorded audio levels are low. ... We took several similar indoor shots and some came out dark orange or even more heavily artifacted, telling us that the camera has trouble gauging light balance settings. We set the camera to night mode manually to get the best shot."
Mobility Site reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes, "The 2 megapixel camera works fine for outdoor pictures in strong backlit sun light and will be OK for interior shots if there is sufficient light but remember, it’s a camera phone and you won’t get that “perfect shot” but you will get a memory and I suppose that is what it is all about. As you play with the camera and its settings, you can achieve some very acceptable pictures ... If needed, there is a 4X zoom which works surprising well but there are a few finger strokes to achieve a zoom level. If you are in a hurry to zoom … it is not going to be easy. There are a variety of effects that you can choose from to add that little extra to your pictures … some might well enhance an otherwise poor picture. ... Overall, I was reasonably pleased with the quality of pictures and video. I am sure that if given the time to play around with it in a variety of settings, I would be able to get some very reasonable shots."
CNET reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes, "The final enhancement is the addition of a 2-megapixel camera with video-recording capabilities and a 4x zoom. There's no flash, but there are brightness settings and a choice of five environment settings (auto, daylight, fluorescent, tungsten, or night). Other editing options include different effects, three quality settings, and seven resolutions. However, videos only have one resolution option, but you can set the recording length to 15 or 30 minutes or to the limit of available memory. Onboard memory is limited at about 60MB for user storage, so save these types of files onto a microSD card. Photo quality was disappointing as images looked slightly blurred and the colors were dull."
Brighthand reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes, "The JAQ3's battery life once again proves that engineering isn't a science, it's an art. Despite having only a 1250 milliamp-hour battery, the device manages to go for 4-5 hours of talk time, even with other use, matching other devices with slightly larger batteries, and even besting some of its direct competitors like the Treo 750. Of course, factors like a small screen, lack of 3G, and a slower processor do contribute to battery savings, but even most other devices with these "features" still don't have an advantage on the JAQ3 for battery life."
LaptopMag reviews the i-mate JAQ3 and writes, "With a slim design, touchscreen display, and Wi-Fi connectivity, the i-mate JAQ3's specs put it at the top of the stack--on paper. ... The JAQ3's integrated two-megapixel camera delivered passable still image and video quality; we found it easy and intuitive to navigate through the camera's settings, which include 4X zoom, contrast, saturation, and resolution. About the only thing missing is a flash."
