HTC TyTN Reviews
Trusted Reviews has a review of the HTC TyTN and has this to say about the PDA's camera: "Also above the screen to the right is the small camera you use for video calls. A larger lens is on the back, and this shoots stills at up to 2-megapixels. Both self portrait mirror and flash are included, and there is a small mechanical switch with which you access the camera’s macro mode. I wouldn’t suggest trying to use this as your only digital camera, but it produces reasonable enough shots."
TechDigest reviews the HTC TyTN and writes, "The Tytn comes with a 2 megapixel camera on the back, which although comes with a lot of functions, including flash, video recording and resolution adjustment, it just doesn't take very good photos. It's one of two cameras, the other being situated on the front for video calling."
3G reviews the HTC TyTN and writes, "There is a small front facing camera for video calling, and a larger one on the back for shooting stills and video at resolutions up to 2 megapixels. Unusually this has a macro mode, which you get to simply by swivelling a small lever on the lens. There is a flash and self portrait mirror, and a fairly good array of settings and features including burst and sports shooting modes and a panorama stitch mode, for example. A neat system of on screen tappable menus provides access to all these options. The TyTN screen turns into a viewfinder when you are in camera mode and shifts into landscape orientation, the shutter button for the camera resting under your right forefinger."
Pocket-lint reviews the HTC TyTN and writes, "The TyTN offers 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM and you can expand it further via a Micro SD card. It's a shame a standard SD Card slot wasn't available - for viewing images straight out of a camera for example, but then the TyTN packs so much into such a small unit (112.5mm (L) x 58mm (W) x 21.95mm (T)) that this omission can be forgiven."
Mtekk reviews the HTC TyTN and writes, "Like almost every Windows Mobile 5 pocket pc device, the camera on the TyTN is no different; in good lighting pictures are quite good, in poor lighting pictures are quite poor. Its really that simple. The TyTN viewfinder has the standard capture modes: Photo, Video, MMS Video, Contacts, Template, Panorama, Sports, Burst. The Macro mode is a nice feature for those up close photos however it is disappointing that HTC didn't adopt Dopods approach and bundle business card recognition software with the device. Macro mode cameras can be used to scan business cards straight into your contacts, a disappointing feature that HTC has neglected to bundle for us."
The Mobile Gadgeteer at ZDNet reviews the HTC TyTN and writes, "The back of the TyTN is completely removable with the 1350 mAh battery and SIM card slot under the battery. There is a self-portrait mirror, camera light, speaker, external antenna connector and macro/normal mode switch around the 2 megapixel camera lens. ... I took a few photos of the area I was working in and of the damaged barge and was very impressed with the quality. I was pleased to see HTC release a device with a camera that is actually usable for on-the-go snapshots."
