The Repercussionless Life

26 April, 2004 1:03 PM

Sometimes life can be frustrating.

V and I were at a shopping centre a week back and came back out to our car in the car park to find that someone had hit our car. Looking at where they hit I have no idea how they did it, but they did and they would have known that they did as there must have been a significant impact.

There was no note left and no way of tracing who did it - hence it falls back on us to pay for repairs. Luckily I don't lose my rating 1 from the insurance, but the $450 excess and 10 days without a car sucks. It really makes me wonder why people wouldn't own up to what they do - on one level it doesn't surprise me at all - but on another it makes me sad that we live in a society where people feel free to not reap the consequences of their actions.

Lets have a blogathon to raise money to pay for it! Or to buy you a pedicab for some alternate transport.

Sorry to hear about that Darren. Some people!

Sorry to hear that Darren, similar thing happened to me the other week, someone kncoked my wing mirror off and it cost £150 to fix it. It makes you angry to think that there's nothing you can do about it doesn't it?

I have had the same thing happened to me before and more than once too (once was my wing mirror and the other was a ding which I never bothered to get fixed due to the expense)! I heard a survey that said 3 out of 4 people ran away rather than left notes. Sad comment on our society....

On the other hand, I was picking something up off the floor at a red light a few days ago (after a terrible day at work, as I recall), and my foot came off the brake slightly, and I rear-ended the van in front of me at low speed. The guy got out, took a look, and said "I'm not greedy. Have a nice day."

He drove off, and I broke down in tears. What grace. This is the second time this has happened to me.

man, doesn't that just make you mad? well, guess what? i came home from teaching in another city after the weekend and decided to wash my car that was just sitting on the sidewalk next to the apartment building we live in. well, the same thing - my car was hit by a truck (it is definite as the hight of the hit is where the truck would have backed up... not covered by the insurance though...
