McDonald's Diet

24 January, 2004 11:53 AM

Ever wondered what would happen to you if you ate McDonald's morning noon and night? Well now you can find out because someone has decided to be the guinea pig for us all and eat three meals every day for thirty days at McDonald's.

The New York Post has the details.

'His mission: To eat three meals a day for 30 days at McDonald's and document the impact on his health.

Scores of cheeseburgers, hundreds of fries and dozens of chocolate shakes later, the formerly strapping 6-foot-2 New Yorker - who started out at a healthy 185 pounds - had packed on 25 pounds.

But his supersized shape was the least of his problems.

Within a few days of beginning his drive-through diet, Spurlock, 33, was vomiting out the window of his car, and doctors who examined him were shocked at how rapidly Spurlock's entire body deteriorated.

"It was really crazy - my body basically fell apart over the course of 30 days," Spurlock told The Post.

His liver became toxic, his cholesterol shot up from a low 165 to 230, his libido flagged and he suffered headaches and depression. '

A few years ago just before I came to Australia, my husband and I lived in a 5 star hotel for a few months. My husband didnt like Chinese food and the hotel food was too expensive and theres no cooking facilities in the hotel. There was a Mcdonalds just outside the hotel. So we had Macdonalds 4 meals a day. (Chinese people like to have another meal just before they go to sleep). Sometimes plus morning tea and afternoon tea as well. We had lots and lots of Mcdonalds. Two weeks after I came to Australia, I found myself pregnant. The doctor was very worried. All he said to me was eat more! I was only 41 kilos.

Which is probably why I try to keep it below 1 visit-per-month.

Sick. Gross. Now I need even more persuading to get me in the golden arches.

You Americans are generally gluttonous idiots...The problem isn't McDonald's, the problem is the choices you make at McDonalds. As far as fast food goes, I think McDonald's does a fabulous job at progressing with the times.
You can choose amongst various salads, protein platters, juices, veggie burger, and a yogourt fruit cup for dessert.
Their fried goods are cooked in 100% vegetable oil, which isn't that horrible when consumed in moderation. But the problem is that you over indulge day after day after day.
So wake up and start blaming your obese, unfit society because they are weak, uneducated, and don't value their health like they should . They are the only ones to blame for the choices they make.

McDonald's is one of Americas great international success stories and should be recognized as such.

Take the chicken salad at Mc D's with the dressing it has twice the fat as big mac....enough said

That movie is typical of the reality crap assaulting our senses it is a waste of time, as for his liver being toxic yeah right.

DV » 6 June, 2004 3:31 PM

To SM, what country do you originate from? Where is your current location.

The problem also goes much deeper than being uneducated.

If you look at where people live in proximity to a local foot market that has organic or healthy food, then you would know the real culprit.

Most Americans are not in a close proximity to such a market...Roughly 30% actually have better access to mini marts and gas stations where hot dogs are cheaper than a filet of cod or chicken breast and a 32oz soda is cheaper than a 16oz bottled water.

Think about it, minimum wage rural folk that live miles away from a major food chain but close to a local mini mart with preserved foods high in refined sugars, fat and meat by-product.

As a matter of fact, I shop at Whole Foods which cost me on average $250/ visit at 2 visits per week. This is the cost of healthy, gluten free, organic living. Many people do not have access to such or even the money to spend on such.

Before hand I would be able to visit the local Stop and Shop and only pay out $200 for a whole weeks food shopping vs. the $500 I spend on the family at Whole foods.

The problem isn't simply stop eating Mc Donalds. The problem also lies in making better foods available to the masses at a reasonable price.

For some people on a budget, Burger King, Mc Donalds, Jack n the Box are a cheap way to fill up a dumb organ, the stomach. It doesn't know of the nutritional value of the food, it only knows when it is full.

I stopped eating cheaply, spent more money on a gym membership and organic, low fat, low refined sugar and non processed/preserved foods and lost 23lbs in 30 days. Also am on a gluten/yeast free diet.

I do blame Mc Donalds for targeting me as a child with their happy meals and tastey fried foods. Just as I blame the local news for force feeding me public opinion, RJ Reynolds Tobacco for making me want to smoke with their little camel cartoons, the EPA for not telling me exactly how many chemicals I was exposed to at Ground Zero and the French for being cheese eating surrender monkeys.

Now that I am an adult, I have no one to blame but myself.

The Western Diet is killing people - Who wants to go to Mc Donalds and buy a salad? WTF?? I can buy one anywhere else for cheaper. Mc D's isnt known for their flavorless health food. It's known for it's tastey, greasy, in your face, need a sponge bath, McRib or McBaboonAss, or McWhateverthehellisinthis sandwiches.

Just like any mainstream, commercial company, Mc Donalds wants to appear as progressing with the time by supplying salads and yoghurts, cereals, etc. Why not just go to the supermarket, buy your cereals and yoghurts there? it is much cheaper..

I have to aggree that Americans are gluttons but it is also a matter of money....I have been a vegetarian for 14 years and recently turned vegan 6 months ago. I have found that the healthier the food the more expensive it is....it's f'n rediculous that you have to be wealthy to be healthy!!!

krist hernandez » 24 August, 2004 12:49 PM

I think that mcdonalds sucks and I never eat there because it would make me fat like all the people that work there I bet that you are fat to.
