Life Transformation Groups - LTGs

3 November, 2003 2:10 PM

Has anyone had any experience of Life Transformation Groups? I've seen a lot of churches using them lately and wonder what people think about them? Its something that some of us have been talking about but none of us have been a part of before. Your thoughts would be greatly valued.

If you've no idea what I'm talking about here is how Jacob's Well describes LTGs.

I just read Cole's book on the subject for a class on Discipling and Mentoring (under prof. Greg Ogden). Haven't had time to put it together yet...

A friend at church just started a group and gave me a copy of Cole's book. I plan to start it with a friend from Bible study. We are both a little overwhelmed by the amount of reading and not sure how to go about selecting the passages. Do you know of any recommended reading lists?

To be honest, I keep reading over the accountability questions and clearly have a long, long way to go to righteousnes...

Yes, I've read the book on LTGs. However, I have been part of a personal accountability group for over 6 years and it has been vital to my life. The LTG program is similar, however, it brings in lots more Bible reading, but all other aspects are the same --- sharing, confessing, accountability, prayer, support.

LTG also includes multiplication. Groups are no more than 3 and if others are interested and join, the group splits/multiplies and sets up a new groups of 2 or 3. Also, groups are gender specific. Men with men and women with women -due to issues and understanding.

I am pursuing starting these at my church.
Hope this helps.

I can't think of a better method of reaching the pre-christianin the 21st century.

The pastor of my house church has utilitzed this methodology quite successfully in our group and many others. I will be starting one here myself soon. While the mass of reading may seem daunting, it's less than 5 chapters a day. On the grand scheme of things, that's not a whole lot and it will certainly change your life! Even being employed full time and mom of a 2 year old, it's doable. Best wishes, God Bless!
