Today was a beautiful day - mid 20's temperature wise (celcius) and sunny. We toured mosques, palaces, churches and saw some stunning views around Istanbul. Tomorrow we head off to Gallipoli and then the day after head towards Ephesus which will be fascinating.
We're both well (although I have a bit of a cold) and are loving the food and sights. Must rush off to bed - big travel day tomorrow.

Oh... I assume you'll be visiting Hagia Sophia, of course. I had a whole 'nother perspective on that place after I started researching Orthodoxy!
Less well known, but something I consider a must-see, is the Chora Church. Best way to get there is by taxi from Eminonu, or since you're Aussie and so maybe cheap :) (hey, did I say that?!), a bus going to Edirnekapi. Look for a sign on the bus stop that says Kariye Camii. The bus will be climbing uphill, so facing uphill from the bus stop, go right and then left. Just ask for Kariye and someone will point you in the right direction.
Chora has some of the most amazing frescoes and mosaics in the city. Nearby are also some of the old city walls. In fact, that's the area that the Turks first broke through when they took the city.
Anyway, enjoy!

Hey there! I stumbled on your blog across the web, searching for "Orthodox blogs"... apparently you linked to some at one point.
I lived in Istanbul for four years, so what a coincedence to see your reports from the city! I'm a little envious of you, actually! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time, and this is a good time of year to be visiting so hopefully the weather will treat you well.
Come visit my blog anytime. I'm a new convert to Orthodoxy, but funnily enough came to that via an Emergent website, theooze.com.
Enough of my blathering! Go out and dodge carpet sellers! ;)
