Hypothetically Speaking about Spanish Porn

3 March, 2004 10:26 PM

Hypothetically speaking - if a Spanish Porn site was to link up to one of your posts and sent thousands of visitors to your blog - what would you do?

A. Ignore it and enjoy the hits
B. Delete the post
C. Add a link to XXX Church - No. 1 Christian Porn Site on the Web
D. None of the Above - Something else? Leave your suggestions in comments.

Page:

Ignore it, you do not control who links to you.

I'd have to agree with Pixelkitty... ignore it.

what kind of post did you do to make them link up? I have not seen too many on your site that would appeal to them.

Armad » 4 March, 2004 12:18 AM

I'd probably just ignore it... unless I saw that my regular readership was going up with my hits. Then I'd clap and do a little happy dance.

I'd only worry if people start harassing you in your comments, or if spammers come along. As long as they spell your name right, huh? ;)

I don't know what you should do. If it entices you to keep writing hilarious laugh-out-loud posts like this one then I'd welcome more of them! :)

Choice A.

Bring them on!

ilona » 4 March, 2004 6:37 AM

I'd have to say "C"
I'd welcome them with open arms... might even have a post welcoming all visitors from the site, and while I"m welcoming them, encourage them to visit XXXChurch.

Then, I'd really freak out and try and figure out what I did that got a porn site to link to my site- QUICK!

Write an entry welcoming "visitors from El Hotto" and maybe explaining views on porn?

Hey Darren, I heard that people can actually lock out their pages based on referrer, and that's been done before. In this case that would be a bad idea and waste of an opportunity!

Thomas Williams » 4 March, 2004 9:42 AM

I'd make sure my blog was also in Spanish.

Mark D. Roberts » 4 March, 2004 9:47 AM

Darren, believe it or not it's been done before - well sort of, albeit once removed. Not on a blog but on an Australian church media site - a site linked to theirs and information on a porn site was displayed on the site. Needless to say the church was not amused when I pointed it out to them.

What would I do? I'd get a google Spanish translator..... just kidding ;-)

Delete ALL posts immediately in case such an atrocity happens again.

Caz » 4 March, 2004 5:31 PM

1) Rejoice at the increase of hits.
2) Add a Spanish translator via babelfish
3) Add a link to XXXChurch
4) Add a banner saying Living Room welcomes Spanish porn-addicts.

It was only a hypothetical question.
So hypothetically speaking the only answer is to hypothesise that the webmaster of the hispanic porn site has just become a non hypocritical christian and is going to turn over his hitherto unsuspecting readership to the hypothetical church site which will rapidly provide hermeneutical spanish translations to all its hypothetical entries.

Since it has already happened to me, this is not a hypothetical situation. I had a porn webmaster discussion forum link to (and actually recommend) the advice provided on my Blog Business World blog.

There were a lot of hits to linked posts (they linked several) on getting more web traffic, optimizing for the search engines, and adding sites to internet directories.

Overall, I ignored the traffic. I don't know if they continue to frequent my blog for tips or not. Either way, I can't do much about it. I simply ignore it. :-)
