Examen

7 July, 2003 9:53 PM

I've had an increasing amount of interest in a post I wrote back in May on Examen which is an ancient form of prayer and meditation that I use regularly. It's also something that we've used at Living Room as a group. Have you used it? If so, how have you found it?

the way we have done it as a group is to do it as a guided meditation - ie one person slowly reads through it while the rest respod in their own quiet way.....(or sleep!)

We played some quiet music and had candles also....very chilled. At the end we had a time for sharing with each other.

I've also done it with a larger group (of 50) - it worked well but we didnt have a sharing time. I gave this group pens and paper also to do some journalling as we went through it....and for 10 or so minutes at the end. I also projected some Jesus images during it for those who are more visual.

You can also do it not only at the end of a day - but at the end of a year (or other period of time) - you need a little more than 15 minutes for that though!

I used it at a little accountability/study/prayer group I have with a few friends, and while they all enjoyed it, I think they liked it better that I made it into a little booklet thingy which they could put in their bible or journal and use on their own as well. Thanks!
