Defamation?

13 December, 2004 11:06 PM

I know the bible says something about not bringing legal cases against brothers and sisters - but I'm not sure it covers defamation. What do you think?

I don't think there is ever a time when we can go to the world against another brother and ask the courts to settle a case against a member of the body. This smacks of rank individualism; aka "my rights." The body of Christ is an organism where each of us an small but integral part of something bigger than "individual rights." Hence, we settle within the body.

Hmmm... Perhaps your defensiveness is a sign of guilt? ;o)

I think it's okay to sue anyone who isn't a fan of U2. ;)

Doesn't it say something about, "if your brother says you pushed him down on his right ankle, go ahead and push him down on his left as well."? Seems like I remember that.

i got selected to be on a jury this past summer. the case? defamation. i now know more about the legal ramifications of defamation (at least, here in the usa) than i ever knew before. it's oddly similar to slander... in fact, severe defamation cases often involve slander... slander, of course, being something that's a big "no no" in the bible.

BUT, i am not completely convinced it's applicable to your circumstance. :)

I have advised my client that the defence of truth would be available....

Sue him for misspelling 'slipped'.

I don't think they got it either, Darren. That's some church people for you, though. Throw em a chance to interpret and apply some scripture and they're like a dog with a big, juicy and very, very serious bone.

Defamation huh? ... I'll have to look it up in Greek

Well, mine was even an American attempt at an irreverent quasi-scripture reference - ha!

I agree with Darryl, maybe God is a U2 fan?

Heh, reading all these comments and the ones on Signposts is hilarious!!

Darren is this a reflection of you being too serious in your blog or your readers being too serious on your blog? :)
