Tonight was fun, we had friends over for dinner. Among other things we talked about blogging - a completely new concept to them. They were really interested, he might even get into it himself! It is the first dinner party I've ever been to where I've been asked to get my laptop out to explain blogging for the guests.
I've been thinking a lot about the different applications for blogging lately. There is quite a bit of talk about 'business blogging' and a few people writing about 'educational blogging' - oh and of course some politicians are using blogs for their campaigning. People are blogging for all kinds of reasons - some purely personal, others commercial... I'm wondering what other applications people have seen it used for - or think it will end up being used for? Would love to hear your thoughts below.

I've actually given my blog address to a gal I met @ the coffeeshop. We're dating now. (And she started blogging, too!) Guess that counts as personal, eh? :^)

This week, I am facilitating the small group I'm in and this exact idea popped into my head. Would blogging be a suitable subject to share in a small group atmosphere? I could explain it, teach it, etc. In turn, we could create a small group community Blog in which everyone would be an author, sharing their thoughts throughout the week in an online, but intimate fashion... This Blog wouldn't even have to be public; just something that a core group of people could take part in while they're not physically together.
In any case, two others (that I know of for sure) in my small group already blog... And my small group isn't so small -- 20 to 30 people. But to be able to communicate communally, even though we aren't living communally... I think it would be so cool.

yeah - good idea Tim and Jay - I've seen blogs used similarly as online tutorials for classes (ie it is a group blog) that each week discusses the previous class. Worked pretty well. It was a private thing so that discussions could remain confidential.
Adam, that is amazing!

I think blogging can be a good way of writing a book. You write little by little, and colleting thoughts, comments, other people's input along the way.

There's an article in New Scientist about educational blogging.
Blogging is really no different from any other human communication, anything people will talk about, can be blogged.
There are probably even weather blogs.
BTW, you've got some odd behaviour on your site at the moment:

I use it for personal things for sure, but I also have a group blog for youth ministry at my church. We have a super close group that would spend ever second together, so they use our group blog to "be together" when they can't "be together."
Here is the website.
