Week 1 of Blogger Idol is approaching. I wasn't sure if anyone would want to participate when I first wrote about it - but so far we have 35 45 55 75 blogger idols. Every time I check my email there is another one or two - thank you to everyone for pitching in.
Before we kick off with the first theme on Sunday can I ask for people's opinion on two things.
1. Fat Guy Little Coat has generously designed 5 'Blogger Idol' buttons. These can be used by participants on their 'entries' each week to identify them as blogger idol participants. They will have a link back to a central blogger idol page to explain what it is and encourage more people to participate. Which design do you like best? Vote by going over to Fat Guy Little Coat and leaving a comment.
2. I'd like to hear some suggestions for weekly themes in comments below. Themes should be general enough to give people scope to be individuals but tight enough that they are distinct. Any ideas?
Lastly its never too late to join the project. You can join in or opt out any time so feel free to sign up in comments below simply by saying 'email me' and I'll add you to the list.

For some reason the comments are not working for me over at Andy's site, so I have to vote here--I like #5 best. It's what I had in my head when I suggested a button. Barring that, #2 is my 2nd choice.

One suggestion for a theme: what about posts that have to include an interesting collection of random words. For example: sweetbread, perturb, camcorder, laughable, violin, equation, sodden, haddock, tear, kid
The only rule is that it has to make some sort of sense.
Just a thought

Sounds like fun. email me.

Richard, I love the idea. Fred at Fragments gave me an assignment which had to include "rubber chicken" and "toilet plunger" which turned out pretty well.
Another idea is the Drabble, a story in exactly one hundred words (more info here: http://www.thewritersezine.com/t-zero/drabble.shtml), which is quite challenging.
If your theme is just one word (eg fear) it would be interesting to see how it's interpreted by that many people.

In my earlier comment on your further down post, I left out the crucial words ... "email me" (please!)

I was having a discussion with someone about this the other day and she said that it sounded a lot like a high school english project ;)
Why am I so excited to start?
jamie » 16 January, 2004 11:20 AM
email me.. did i say that already? i forget.
hmm themes?
.biography of another blogger
.what is colour?
.it would be interesting to see what a blogger could produce given the challenge to write non-stop for 5minutes. no hesitations. just write what comes out of the head. obvious difficulty being to know if people are playing fair.
matt » 16 January, 2004 11:42 AM
I had thought about categories such as pop culture, religion, politics, home life, work. Too broad?
#Debi » 16 January, 2004 11:56 AM
What about a simple word - blue, unjust, gossip, fear, isolation, joy.
The trick is to make it not just a creative writing exercise, but something that different people who blog about different sorts of things can all be involved in and contribute to in line with their own blog personality and persona.

I can't imagine that I'm going to be attacked for telling the truth. Why would I be attacked for telling the truth?
