Blogathon is Coming

Just to give you all notice that next Wednesday (Aussie time) I'll be holding my long awaited and much talked about (by me) Blogathon. With the breakdown of my computer it has been delayed - but now nothing will hold me back.

So get ready - I'll be blogging for 24 hours in a row from around 5.00am next Wednesday in the hope of raising enough money for pedicabs for families in need in a Manilla slum in the Philippines.

A pedicab (like a rickshaw) has the ability to provide a family with enough income to break the poverty cycle. Families entering the pedicab program are leased the pedicab over 12 months. At the end of that time they have paid of the total cost and own the pedicab outright. The money they have paid then buys another pedicab for another family to lease. Therefore a one off donation of $400 doesn't just help one family once, but will continue to have impact every year indefinitely. I have seen the program in action and it works. It not only provides an immediate way to put food on the table but empowers a family by giving them skills and means to break the cycle that they find themselves in.

The cost of a pedicab is just $400AU (which is currently $310US). It is my hope that we can raise enough for at least one, if not three or four! Money will be given through International Needs who work with the poor and plant churches throughout the Philippines and other countries.

I understand not everyone is in a position to give financially - please do not feel pressured to do so if this is you. You might like to consider supporting the blogathon in other ways - perhaps by spreading the word in the lead up to next Wednesday and encouraging others to participate - or asking me a question that you'd like me to answer during the day (I'll be looking for topics to blog about!).
