Just a quick post before I leave for the day to say sorry to those of you who have had comments from 'Greg' left on your blog overnight.
'Greg' has a habbit of getting out and spreading the word for me. I'm not sure what the issue really is. If there are things about my approach that are 'unbiblical' I'm more than willing to be confronted on them and to rectify the situation. I don't really see myself as a 'liberal' or 'lefty' - I'm not sure why I keep getting this label apart from the fact that I tend to take seriously Jesus command to love others as myself. Anyway, I'm open to talking about any issue, just shoot me some mail or leave a comment (with valid email) and I'll dialogue about anything!
And Greg - sigh - buddy, I know you have some issues with the approach we're taking - I'd love to chat with you someday about them to find out if we could find some common ground. I know you are from Australia, so if you're ever up for a coffee, or would like to come to Living Room to see first hand what we do, just shoot me an email.
I'm afraid that every time you leave comments on other people's sites telling them to boycott my blog that all you do is send more people to it, like last time you did this campaign today I've had higher than normal hits - so I guess I should thankyou.
sorry to leave such a long comment, but I've no other way of getting messages to Greg.
This is the last time that I will mention you on this blog Greg - I'll be deleting any comments you might leave, unless you show you are serious about dialogue and discussing the issues you raise by leaving a valid email address. As I said, I'm more than willing to be confronted and challenged, but not by an anonamous stranger who is not willing to have a true interaction.
Anyway, lets get on with life and not get too worked up by this. Now, lets all head over to Rachel's and lend a hand by buying a great CD at a cheap rate! (free links here to anyone who does!!!)
Peace

Posted by: Jon Reid at July 31, 2003 09:36 AMWell said, Darren.
Posted by: Darryl at July 31, 2003 10:15 AMCan I get him to try and boycott my site too. I need the hits :-)
Posted by: chris at July 31, 2003 11:22 AMI could use a boycott too while you're at it. :-)
Posted by: Timothy R. Butler at July 31, 2003 11:52 AMI hope he was frustrated when he found out he couldn't access the comments on my blog :)
My server has been down since Saturday!! I'm having blogging withdrawal symptoms!!!!!!!
Posted by: irene at July 31, 2003 03:11 PMDarren, as you know, I concur with your sentiments about Greg.
I do have a question about the whole "valid e-mail address thing," though. Is that really necessary? I mean, I don't leave my e-mail address on any blog I comment on. It's for privacy reasons.
Wouldn't a valid URL be fine? (I do leave my blog's address -- which has a Contact e-mail that goes to the Thinklings' webmaster.)
Couldn't a willingness to really discuss in the comments section take the place of an e-mail discussion?
I guess what I'm saying is, shouldn't you delete Greg's comments based on him not being willing to discuss period, and not necessarily based on him not leaving an e-mail address? If he didn't leave an e-mail address, but was still courteous and willing to discuss the points he brings up in the comments sections he brings them up in, would you still delete him?
Btw, I don't think he would be interested in doing this anyway, since he seems to like the hit-and-run approach.
Posted by: Jared at July 31, 2003 04:03 PMEmail or URL? He leaves no valid way of contact.Greg doesn't seem inclined to dialogue with any outside his narrow ideas.
I've had a few words to say myself this afternoon at my blog.
Shalom to all,
Jan
C'mon, Darren. We all know the truth - Greg is you!!! It's like a Jekyll and Hyde thing, Darren the schizophrenic blogger. You should have at least made him to be from your arch-nemesis New Zealand instead of Australia.
Posted by: JJ at July 31, 2003 10:27 PMYeah, what JJ said. That made me laugh...
Posted by: Missy at July 31, 2003 11:24 PMHeheh. That's pretty funny, JJ. Maybe I should develop my own "evil twin." Then maybe my hits would go way up too! Except right now, I don't write frequently enough to keep the traffic going for very long...
Darren: well said, with grace and forbearance. God bless you man.
Posted by: Jonathan at July 31, 2003 11:34 PMDarren - you rock!
Posted by: Mike at August 1, 2003 01:42 AMgreg never commented on MY blog about it! i feel so left out...maybe i'll have to make a token mention of darren so he does.

Posted by: joseph j. fell at August 1, 2003 02:37 AMI disagreed with almost everything you say here until my wife told me that you sound almost exactly like me so I am boycotting both of our sites from now on! :)
Posted by: Jordon Cooper at August 1, 2003 04:01 AMVery gracious response. You're never wrong when you're gracious.
Posted by: Darrell Dement at August 1, 2003 07:05 AMTa for the comments and thoughts.
I've thought long and hard about whether to start deleting Gregs comments - I'm still in two minds. The main reason I've come to this decision is not that he's being anon and not leaving email (I have plenty of commenters who do that to stop spam and I'm fine with it) but because he seems to be the type of person that throws grenades on a topic and runs. Some of his comments in the past have been somewhat intolerant of others opinions, even at times bordering on hateful.
I am more than happy to have people taking opposing opinions to me, but I encourage them to do so with grace and acceptance that each person deserves some respect. I also appreciate some interaction and dialogue from people who comment rather than just the one off hit and run.
The other thing I am frustrated with is that Greg pops up on other people's blogs and leaves comments about me - totally unrelated to the discussion going on on those sites. I'm not so worried about my reputation, but annoyed that he's disrupting the flow of other blogs.
Thanks for the comments - I'm open to being challenged on my response.
Posted by: Darren Rowse at August 1, 2003 08:31 AMhey Darren, it's your blog, delete his comments if it gives you joy. It is the ultimate power trip.
If he wants to have his rants left up he can start a blog of his own, and perhaps you can leave some grenades.
have fun
the green man
I had this great sarcastic comment ready after Greg warned me about Darren but I figured that I feel sorry for him since he doesn't stop and around to discuss, learn and be tolerant. So Greg, don't call us, we'll call you (oh wait, we don't have your number...).
Posted by: Rachel at August 1, 2003 10:12 PMThe dude left a comment on my blog. I guess I have joined the ranks of Darren supporters, but I kind of like JJ's theory. ;)
Posted by: Jennifer at August 2, 2003 04:25 AMGreg could boycott me but i boycotted both my sites already :)
You just know that in glory, God is gonna put greg's mansion in the same neighborhood as all those saints he can't stand. you go God.
Darren, as others have said, well said.
