Good Blogging 101

Susan (permalinks not working) has a great list of 'what makes a good blog'. Her main headings are:

1. Updated frequently
2. Content
3. Design
4. Navigation
5. Author Information
6. Commenting
7. Music

Check out her post to see what she says under each one.

What makes a good blog for you?? Leave your comments and I'll collate them all if there is enough response.

I agree with Susan.
I also like to see both sides if it is political, but not arguments you can not back up.

There needs to be truth to the blog.

I think a good blog is one that makes you want to read more and keep coming back, one that makes you want to find out more about that person.

As someone new to blogging (check out my site - all comments gratefully received) I think that variety is the key to a good blogg followed closely by design then interactivity (comments, tag board etc.) They are the type of blog I return to . . . . . blogging is great isn't it!

Working permalinks are always a good start. ;)

The permalinks, I have discovered, do not work in Blogger until the posts are archived. It must be a bug or something. Either way, it's beyond my control (I think) LOL

or not...hey, if anyone has the solution to my Blogger permalinks problem, (less moving from Blogger) let me know!

Right after I make a post at blogger, I have to republish all of the archives for the permalinks to work correctly. It's a pain because sometimes the archives won't republish correctly. When that happens, I have to log off from the internet, dial-up again, re-log into blogger and then republish again. That usually works. But it is certainly a pain.

I was just kidding about the permalinks, Susan! Don't sweat it; I found the post Darren was talking about easy enough!

Hadge posted a good comment on my site about having links open a new window. I thought that was a great idea so a person won't "get lost" or "lose" my blog if I direct them to another site.

I have successfully managed to have links that are part of my permanent blog design open new windows and also added a script so that a reader can choose to have links open new windows, which would include any links referred to in an actual post.

Great idea Hadge and thanks!
